At this point in his career, everyone who’s listened to hip-hop radio knows a thing or two about Rick Ross and his favorite hobbies. They include everything from enjoying only the finest meals made availalbe to simply being an all-round boss and running the streets with his Maybach Music Group crew. But did you know the Miami-hailing rapper is also a lover of gambling and actually pretty damn good at it? True story.
If you’re the type of Rozay fan who cops everything he’s released over the years you might have noticed that he’s got a soft spot for a variety of gambling activities. He’s been known to raps about it here and there, so all you MMG heads out there have probably picked up on it. For one, he spits “I’m rolling the dice, four, five, six” on the track “Pirates” off his album “God Forgives, I Don’t.” He drops a similar line on “Last Breath” off the “Rich Forever” mixtape, “Got me holding my nuts, while I’m rolling the dice.”
Ross also uses the common wordplay of referring to money as chips, though clearly his affinity for poker (and good food) can lead you to believe otherwise, on tracks like “Maybach Music IV”, “I Swear to God”, and “Addicted”. On “Addicted,” he raps on the hook “I’m addicted to money, I’m addicted to chips,” which is both a clever play on words and a nod towards one of his favorite pastimes.
How do we know poker is one of his favorites? Well, why else would he be seen playing poker in the video for Ace Hood’s banger of a single, “Bugatti”? We rest our case. Hearing these rhymes and watching these visuals, it’s not hard to imagine Rozay firing up his smartphone or tablet and throwing down some loot on a game of poker at online casino Betfair. If he’s willing to gamble $30,000 in a basketball shooting match, you just know he’s the type to want to stack some racks in his free time.
Most recently, Rozay was seen shooting hoops with some of his rap buddies like DJ Khaled, Meek Mill, and French Montana. What started out as a friendly game quickly escalated into a contest between the four. It kicked off with a $10,000 prize for the winner, though it grew to a total of $120,000. Somehow, Ross walked away with half of that sum ($60,000), though it’s not entirely clear how that happened. Still, just another W for the boss.
Speaking of wins, sixty grand is nothing compared to what he won earlier in September from another one of his good rap friends, Diddy. According to the Bad Boy leader’s Instagram, he owes Ross more than most of us will ever see at once in our lifetimes: $1 million. As you will see in the video below, they were playing a game of dice (or cee-lo as it’s more commonly known) and, well, Diddy took a huge risk that didn’t pay off. It’s not clear whether or not Ross got the $1 million just yet, but we get the feeling he’s definitely holding on to that IOU note.
What’s next for Ross in the gambling world? We’ll just have to wait for his next social media update. Or maybe it will be another acting role, like when he appeared in the now-defunct Starz series ‘Magic City.’ He was cast as a character named Butterball, who was an illegal gambling kingpin of sorts in Miami.
