Prudence Island summer resident, retired dentist

Born October 9, 1935 in Salem, MA; son of the late Dr. John J. and Mary Daly Grady.  He is survived by his sister Mary Leone of Melbourne, FL and his brother Philip Grady of Wakefield, MA; pre-deceased by his brothers John J. Grady, Jr. and Peter B. Grady.  He was married to Nancy A. Cunning of Needham, MA on August 29, 1959.  Dr. Grady was a graduate of St. John’s Prep in Danvers, MA, attended Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA, and graduated from McGill University School of Dentistry in Montreal, Canada.

Dr. Grady was the head altar boy at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peabody, MA.  He received the Ad Altare Dei award from Cardinal Cushing at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.  He was an Eagle Scout.  As a member of the United Shoe Country Club in Beverly, MA, he was a nationally ranked junior golfer, winning the 1953 New England Junior Grand Slam and playing in the 1953 Junior Amateur Championship in Oklahoma.  He was an active member of the Franklin Country Club for many years.

Dr. Grady practiced dentistry for over fifty years in Wrentham and was a life member of the Massachusetts Dental Society.  He was a life member of the Wrentham Lions Club.  He served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Mary’s Church in Wrentham.  Dr. Grady was a long standing member of both the Wrentham and King Philip Regional School Committees; serving as chairman on both.  The King Philip Regional High School Auditorium was named in his behalf.  He was the founding president of the TRIAD Program, a partnership between senior citizens and law enforcement.

Dr. Grady and his family summered on Prudence Island, RI since 1963.  He was an active member of the Bristol Colony Improvement Association.  “Doc” as he was known by his friends and family was a lifelong Boston sports fan and for him the Holy Trinity of Sports was the Red Sox World Championships of 2004, 2007, and 2013.  He was an avid poker player and later cribbage player, which he very much enjoyed playing with his wife, Nancy.

Dr. Grady is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Nancy and his twelve children; Richard and his wife Florence of Westborough, MA, Joseph and his wife Lynne of South Berwick, ME, his daughter Mary of Kennebunkport, ME, his son Paul and wife Rommy of Delray Beach, FL, his daughter Jane and husband, Steven Hirshberg of Elkins Park, PA, his daughter Nancy and husband William Weir of Wrentham, MA, his son John of Parsippany, NJ, his daughter Lea and her husband Curtis Rondeau of Douglas, MA, his daughter Ellen and her husband John Saltsman of Seattle, WA, his daughter Ann and her husband John Marro of Sugarland, TX, his daughter Frances and her husband Jessye Smith of Holliston, MA, his daughter Carol and her husband Micah Warren of Eugene, OR.  He is pre-deceased by his son James who died in infancy.  He is also survived by his twenty-one  grandchildren whom he loved dearly; Joey, Christopher, Marion, Isabel, Olivia, Will, Thomas, Caroline, Colin, James, Aidan, Trey, Vivian, Curtis Jr., Robert, Levi, Henry, Wesley, Kate, Francesca, and Ruby.  He is also survived by his dear friend, Jessie Mosher of Prudence Island, RI.

Calling Hours will be on Tuesday, July 15 from 4-8 pm at the Ross Funeral Home at 135 South Street in Wrentham.  A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, July 16 at 10:30 am at the Church of St. Mary at 130 South Street in Wrentham.  Grave side services following the Mass at Wrentham Center Cemetery, East Street in Wrentham, MA.
