Police Commissioner says special focus is on VIP movement routes. The threat held out by Telangana protagonists that they would disrupt the proposed programmes of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Hyderabad, has forced police authorities to further tighten the security arrangements in the State capital.

The Prime Minister is to visit Hyderabad on October 16 to attend the CoP meetings on Biodiversity at HICC. “We are not expecting any problem during his visit. The security arrangements will be foolproof and monitored by the Special Protection Group (SPG), Intelligence Wing, city and Cyberabad police,” city Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told reporters. He said the police would focus on the security arrangements on VIP movement routes.

Listing out the security arrangements, he said that special training was being given to 150 policemen to escort foreign delegates to and from the hotels. A separate CoP-11 special wireless channel for communication between city and Cyberabad police is already in operation. Twenty bomb disposal squads are inspecting hotels and tourist spots frequently, the Commissioner said.

Meanwhile, Cyberabad police officials have also made elaborate traffic arrangements for the convenience of delegates. They had imposed traffic regulations to ensure hassle-free movement of delegates’ vehicles on the roads connecting the main venue at Hitex in Madhapur. The regulations would be enforced from October 8 to 19 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., said Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.

Detour for motorists
To guide road users, traffic signals have been posted at major junctions and in case of any problem, motorists can call: 094910 60941 or 040-23116306. Police have prohibited regular traffic on some routes near Hitex. Traffic coming from Kondapur-Hafeezpet towards Cyber Towers cannot use the west gate of HICC-Novotel as thoroughfare. The alternative route for them is through Kothaguda junction.

Vehicles coming from Cyber Towers to Kondapur-Hafeezpet cannot use the NAC main gate as thoroughfare and have to pass through Kothaguda junction.
