2013-08-28

Tuesday, 15 October 2013 - 9:00am to 4:30pm

Information law training has just been launched by Request Initiative and Campaign Train.

Their workshops will teach you how to use information law to achieve campaign aims and objectives. Participants learn how to enhance their research and secure media coverage with disclosures, turning requests into campaigning outputs.

You can opt for an in-house workshop or attend this one day workshop with other organisations.

By joining either of the one-day workshops, you will learn how to effectively utilise the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Data Protection Act (DPA) to successfully extract information that is useful to your own campaign.

Environmental campaigners can also choose to learn about the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs). The training is hands-on and you will write your own requests in both morning and afternoon sessions, while reflecting on the strategy that informs them.

Who are Request Initiative and Campaign Train?

Request Initiative uses information law to deliver research that supports public interest campaigns. Request Initiative’s clients include Global Witness, Greenpeace and Shelter and our disclosures have featured on the front pages of the Observer, the Guardian and the Independent, as well as in the Times, the Telegraph and the Daily Mail. We have also published guides to using the FOIA and EIRs. Request Initiative is a Community Interest Company (no 7786227) and we do not make profits or pay dividends.

Campaign Train is a specialist campaigns organisation offering consultancy, mentoring, training and facilitation. Motivated by social change, we work with organisations to stretch vision and mission and maximise impact to beneficiaries, funders and decision makers. Experienced campaigners, we are passionate about leaving skills in-house to guarantee campaigns sustainability.

Why are we offering this course?

Our aim is to make government more accountable for its actions and decisions. We believe that open government fortifies democracy and that transparency helps to ensure efficiency and good governance. We want to share our learning with civil society and together make the UK more accountable.

What will you get out of it?

By the end of the day you will:

Schedule a coffee meeting with the trainers to discuss the results of the requests they have submitted

Receive slides, further reading and exclusive advice
