The atmosphere at the 2015, 73rd members’ meeting was tantalising and spectacular. With so many events and activities taking place the two days were action packed and welcomed excitable crowds and remarkable automobiles.
Whilst setting up the Dura stand for our second year at the event, we began to see an influx of early arrival’s that created an electric vibe in the air of anticipation for the days to come. The schedule was bursting with fiercely contested races and high speed demonstrations.
As part of this schedule the weekend saw the biggest gathering of McLaren F1 GTRS the world has ever seen. As part of the high speed demonstration the drivers received a pre race talk where they were told to stretch the cars in order to remind the audience of the un-formidable force behind the GT’s. At the wheels of the powerful cars were some of the biggest driving names including Marino Franchitti and Steve Soper to name but a few.
One of the classic highlights was the penultimate Hawthorn Trophy. The race was filled with incidents but the clear winner was the BRM Type 25 that crossed the famous finish line an impressive 28 seconds before its rivals.
This years Goodwood members weekend was the first to play host to a classic car auction by Bonhams. The auction took place on Saturday and visitors were allowed to view the auctioned off cars in the paddock on the Sunday.
50 cars were auctioned in total at the prestigious weekend ranging from sports, touring and classic automobiles. One of the highly anticipated lots was the ex Kitty Maurice Frazer Nas Le Mans Coupe from 1955 which has been present at many of the race course’ annual revival meetings. The car is famous for its participation in the 1959 Le Man 24 hour race where it was stranded on a sand bank 3 hours into the endurance contest.
As well as watching racing royalty the weekend offered a multitude of fun activities. Each visitor was tasked with generating house points through the participation of sports day styled events including, the sack race, tug of war and the egg and spoon race. The winning house this year was Methuen House who has a strong reputation for being crowned as champions.
It wasn’t all fun and games we assure you, we were at the event to work. Our 4.5m by 3m stand showcased our modular designs and incorporated secure tool storage solutions, wall units, double door general storage units as well as tool cabinets. We were lucky enough to meet people who shared our passion for precision and quality and look forward to returning to the venue for this year’s Revival.
