I'm not into hugging trees, but after seeing WedgeWood Rings' black zirconium series lined with woods as rare as Russian Bog Oak, and as comforting as a Jack Daniel's whiskey barrel, I think I'd be OK with letting a tree hug me. If your finger could use a hug too, click here and enter to win your choice of handcrafted black zirconium & wood ring from WedgeWood Rings (a $295 value)!

This giveaway is open to all residents, US & international.

About WedgeWood Black Zirconium & Wood Rings

Steven Wyatt of WedgeWood Rings handcrafts, sands, and polishes every one of his elegant metal and wood combinations to create standout pieces of jewelry that highlight the natural grain and unique characteristics of their materials and wood types.

The black zirconium series entails heat-treating standard silver zirconium at extreme kiln temperatures until it oxidizes. This darkens the silver to near-black, and gives the rings a very durable coating that is hard as sapphire. Coatings can be finished in either satin or polished styles.

WedgeWood Rings offers 10 wood inner lining designs to choose from in the black zirconium line. Some samples of wood selections include:

A genuine used Jack Daniels Whiskey white oak barrel. According to Wyatt, "nearly as much work goes into perfecting the Jack Daniels barrel as does perfecting the iconic American whiskey." The selected American White Oak must dry slowly, for nearly a year, at which point it is kiln-dried and assembled. Then, to complete the process, the wood is charred to release its natural flavors so they can permeate the whiskey the barrels are to age. This ring also includes a Certificate of Authenticity, though, due to the wood seal process, sadly does not retain the barrels' odor.

Tamarind tree wood from Laos. Post-cutting, tamarind logs are left on the jungle floor to "spalt", or be eaten away by bacteria and fungus thriving in the area's tropical conditions. The spalting creates the swell blue/green/black marbling in the otherwise pale wood.

Buckeye burl. I had a buckeye tree in my backyard growing up. You could crack open their spiny beige pods to reveal a gloriously shiny, fat maroon seed in the center. Sometimes I'd throw the seeds at pigeons. Other times I'd inadvertently step on them while running and fall down. Wyatt notes that there are several types of buckeye tree in the US, the one for this ring hailing from California. Buckeye burl features mesmerizing, complex swirling patterns in blue, purple, green, white, cream, and black colors. WedgeWood Rings' current stock is predominantly blue, and Wyatt compares it to "wearing a storm on your finger."

A note on ring sizing: Wyatt highly recommends his rings' buyers (and the giveaway winner) obtain an accurate ring size from a jewelry counter, as DIY ring sizing methods (e.g., string) are like redheaded women, and cannot be trusted.
