Comcast continues to climb Netflix's rankings of the fastest streaming ISPs after striking a controversial interconnection deal with the company back in February. According to Netflix's monthly ranking list, Comcast jumped another two spots to take the third place spot in the rankings (or 16 if you include smaller ISPs like Google Fiber and many cable overbuilders).

Netflix claims they were forced to strike a deal with Comcast after the company intentionally let its peering points saturate, resulting in months of poor streaming performance for Netflix users.

While Verizon struck a similar interconnection deal with Netflix last month neither FiOS or Verizon DSL services saw any movement, suggesting there's plenty of work left to be done on bringing that deal to fruition.

The Netflix ISP Speed Index is based on data from the more than 48 million Netflix members worldwide who view over 1 billion hours of TV shows and movies streaming from Netflix each month. For the first time ever, Netflix added Canadian ISPs to the rankings.

"Perhaps not surprisingly, the fiber services from Bell Aliant and Bell Canada top the chart, closely followed by cable provider Shaw," notes Netflix. "As a country, the average speed for Netflix in Canada beats that of the United States, but ranks below most European nations."
