Customer-Hosted Installations: How to Obtain & Apply the Software

Digital StoreFront 8.4 is a minor release that can be installed only over an existing installation of Digital StoreFront v. 8.0 (a major release). See the “Upgrade Path to v. 8.4” section below for details.

If you are on Digital StoreFront 8.x:

You can upgrade directly to Digital StoreFront 8.4 by downloading the installation file. Follow the steps in “Upgrading to v. 8.4 from v. 8.x” below.

If you are on a pre-8.0 version of Digital StoreFront (e.g., 6.x, 7.x):

You must first install version 8.0 and then install Digital StoreFront 8.4. See the section “Upgrading to v. 8.0” below for information on upgrading to v. 8.0. After you have installed v. 8.0, follow the steps in “Upgrading to v. 8.4 from v. 8.x” below to complete the upgrade to v. 8.4.

Upgrading to v. 8.0
Important Notice:

Before installing the Digital StoreFront 8.0 software, you must obtain a Digital StoreFront 8.0 license string. You will be prompted to enter this license string during the installation of the software. To obtain the license:

Go to http://w3.efi.com/support/overview/w...ade-order-form.

Scroll down to the “Order Upgrade Contact Form” section and from the Licensed Version pull-down list, select the Digital StoreFront (Customer-Hosted) option.

Note: EFI will contact you with information on receiving and installing your software. If you select the option to download the software: After downloading the zip file, unzip it to a temporary folder (e.g., C:\Temp), and then click the setup.exe file.

Digital StoreFront 8.x must be installed on a system running either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 64-bit operating system.

Downloading and Extracting the Installation File:

Navigate to this FTP site.

Click the link either to the zip file 8.4.0.21552.zip or to the self-extracting zip file 8.4.0.21552.exe.
Note: The .exe version of the installer is about 40% smaller than the .zip version. So if you are permitted to download .exe files, it will download faster.

If you selected the EXE file:

(Internet Explorer) When prompted to run or save the file, choose the Save As option, select a folder on your local drive in which to save the file, and then click Save. When the download is complete, click the file to begin the extraction process.

(Firefox) When prompted on the Opening… dialog, click Save File. The file will download to your default download folder. When the download is complete, click the file to begin the extraction process.

(Chrome) The file download will begin automatically and be saved in your default download folder. When the download is complete, click the file to begin the extraction process.

OR
If you selected the ZIP file:

(Internet Explorer) When prompted to open or save the file, choose the Save As option, select a folder on your local drive in which to save the file, and then click Save. When the download is complete, click the file to begin the extraction process with your default zip file extraction utility.

(Firefox) When prompted on the Opening… dialog, click either Open with (and choose the zip file extraction utility from the pull-down list) or Save File. Then click OK. The file will download to your default download folder. When the download is complete, click the file to begin the extraction process. If you selected Open with, your unzip utility will launch after the download is complete.

(Chrome) The file download will begin automatically and be saved in your default download folder. When the download is complete, click the file to begin the extraction process with your default zip file extraction utility.

Installing the Software:

After the files are extracted, go to the extraction folder and double-click the setup.exe file.

On the “Welcome” screen, click Next.

Specify a destination folder or accept the default (C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DSF\WebSite).
Note: Verify settings in the “Installation Summary” then click Next.

During the Update installation, a web page will launch. Review the page results then close it.

Follow the instructions provided on the “Finish” screen.
Note: You are now finished, unless you are moving your database to a remote server in which case you will need to decrypt in order to update the connection string by performing step 8 below.

Locate and run the two files listed below that are included in the update. The files will be in the WebSite folder (i.e., C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DSF\WebSite):
Note: The batch files are configured for a standard deployment where:

A. The .NET Framework is installed to %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 where %windir% is the environment variable storing the location of the Windows folder.

B. The site is installed using the WebSite name DSF.

If either of these values is different, the batch files can be re-configured to match the custom settings of the particular installation. Please note that changing the files will cause an application restart, so it is suggested that the modification process be performed during non-operating hours.
