INTRODUCTION

Here is new interesting input from MJX, the MJX X906T. This quadcopter is first of all a toycloning of the Lily drone but the most interesting probably the cheapest full RTF FPV quadcopter available in the market (sold under 68USD). Not only you can practice FPV but also record your flight sessions thanks to the builtin DVR. Let’s have a look to this new MJX product.

BOX CONTENT

+ 1 x MJX X906T (with a 1S 380mAh LiPo with microLOSI connector)

+ 1 x Transmitter (builtin battery)

+ 1 x USB charging cable

+ 4 x Spare props (2 CW, 2 CCW)

+ 1 x Prop wrench tool

+ 1 x microSD card reader

+ 1 x 4GB microSD card

+ 1 x USB-microUSB cable

+ 1 x Instruction manual (English)

OVERVIEW

The lily drone design cloning is obvious….when exactly the same curly shape, same color scheme. Of course here, it’s not a brushless machine with Advanced feature and ultra powerfull MCU. It’s a small 100mm X-design quadcopter.

-FRONT VIEW

A kind of black flying burger with a tiny camera lens in the front middle….. Not sounds good to install a model with a wider FOV….

-SIDE VIEW

-REAR VIEW

With the battery inserted

Probably a 1cm longer battery can be used/inserted without problem.

-UPPER VIEW

-BOTTOM VIEW

a 3 positions dip switch to select on of the 8 Vfreq in the band B. The default frequency is the B8=5866Mhz

-WEIGHT

Less than 50g for the total weight… not so bad for a full FPV solution.

Motors

Motors are 7mmx20mm coreless brushed type

while props

I regret that props don’t have different colors between rear and frond sides. It would help a lof for LOS flights.

LiPo

Camera-FPV module

No possibility to tune the orientation of the lens. A drawback for FPV when we need to apply a minimum positive angle for confort. Probably the first mod to do.

The lens sensor is attached by a 24pin ribbon cable (like the 808#16 for example)

The 5.8G linear antenna is bent on the horizontal plan… optimizing the transmission more for vertical distances. If you wan to extend more in the horizontal axis, you can perform also the antenna mod by dril a small hole on the bottom part of the canapy and install the antenna vertically.

The lens thread is in M6 format unfortunatly not compatible with any existing lens with a wider FOV

Unfortunatly too, the 808#16 lens D (left) is not working even if they share the same type of ribbon cable connector

The VTX is strong enough to cross without problems 2 – 3 walls indoors…. The camera is broadcasing in PAL format and the default VTX’s band is the band B.

Disassembling

In practice, only four screws to remove to acess to both the upper and lower parts so respectively to the FC and the VTX sides

The upper side of the FC welcomes the invensense 6050 for the 6-axis stabilization

while you can recognize a mini54 as main ARM MCU. Ffor the 2.4G RF part (a XN297), good news the radio protocol is compatible at least with the MJX X800… so deviationTX compatible (select the X800 format).

Transmitter

A relatively small gamepad style TX integrating a FPV screen, a builtin DVR and a builtin LiPo !!!!! No more AA or AAA required… just plug the microUSB cable to a PC to charge the battery.

Relatively light too

The left side buttons controls more the DVT (recording, source selection and files) while the right ones more the builtin VRX channel sélections. Two shoulder buttons can be found too. The left one if brievly pressed turns on/off the lights. If you long press on it, you turns on the Headless (the front LEDS start to flash and the radio central red light too). If you press short in headless mode, you engage the on key return. The right shoulder button is to perform 360 flips.

The builtin 2.3″ FPV screen is surprizingly not bad at all in term of brightness even in strong daylights

Unfortunatly the DVR is cropping the PAL source into a 720×480 format. Here is a snapshot from a DVR recording correctly the PAL source

versus the result of the builtin DVR of the X906T.

As you can comparare, the lower bottom lines are cropped. It’s not a big deal since you don’t have any overlayed OSD informations.

Good news, when the DVR is recording your flight session, no frame rate drop observed …. (dislike some 720 camera modules broadcasting too the FPV signal). The FPV sensitivity is really not bad at all ….

UNBOXING & TESTING

Depite slow rates especially for the yaw even in expert mode, the X906T is a nice cruzer offfering more than 5-6min of flight times. Both the control range and FPV range are superiori to 30m out of the box. You can expect without problem 100m with both the 2.4G & 5.8G antenna moding and the control done by deviationTX. I regret the non-possibility to ajust the tilt of lens especially for forward movement. It’s probably with the antenna mod, the mod to do. Except that, for the price, I am positively surprized….

CONCLUSIONS

MJX not only introduces here with the MJX X906T, the cheapest full RTF 5.8G FPV quadcopter but offes alsor a great builtin DVR to record your flight sessions. Both the control, FPV and flight duration are pretty good. What’s a pity, than a lens with a wider FOV is not installed limiting a lot FPV practice indoors in proximity flight environnements. I strongly advise to perform the antenna mod as well to tilt a bit the lens for more confort in forward mouvements.
