Honda‘s upcoming Civic Type R might pack a significant twist under the skin.
That’s the verdict from enthusiast forum CivicX, where one user stumbled upon a report in CAR Magazine‘s November issue. In an interview with a handful of company executives, the report cleared up a few details ahead of the hot hatch’s official debut – the car’s centre of gravity will be lower than the standard Civic’s, the car will remain exclsuively front-wheel-drive, and a limited slip differential will be available.
Oh, and a continuously variable transmission might be offered. Not all hope is lost, though – the CVT will reportedly be optimized for low-end acceleration, and a six-speed manual will still come standard.
Other details haven’t been outright confirmed; the Type R will likely use an updated version of the current Type R’s 2.0-litre turbo-four, but tuned to pump out around 320 horsepower, compared to the 305 horses on tap in the outgoing model available overseas.
