It was an intense title defense win for Hideki Matsuyama last week at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, edging out Webb Simpson in four sudden death playoff holes. Big congrats to “nfog” as he or she was the big $20,000 winner of the PGA $325K Birdie contest earning 638 fantasy points with the lineup consisting of Matsuyama, Oosthuizen, Fowler, An, Berger, and Kuchar.
This week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will be played on three different courses on the beautiful west coast of California. The tournament features a 156 player field (plus a few celebrities such as Mark Wahlberg), and the top 60 PGA players plus ties will get to play on Sunday after the 54 hole cut is made on Saturday. The defending champ is the veteran, Vaughn Taylor.
I have put together my favorite 5 picks and top 5 sleepers for this week’s PGA tournament for your DraftKings lineup(s), plus added in the salaries for all players too.

Justin Rose ($9,200) – Looks like his ailing back is feeling much better these days as he has a 2nd and a 4th in his most recent two starts. In his only appearance at Pebble Beach he finished 6th just last year.
Brandt Snedeker ($10,000) – Won here in 2013 and in 2015, and if the every two year win pattern continues then we will see Brandt win this year in 2017. Was 9th in his most recent start at the Farmers Insurance Open under two weeks ago.
Jordan Spieth ($12,000) – Is consistently in the top 10 for finishes, and it’s a big reason why he’s regularly on the top of the player list in terms of highest salary number on DraftKings. In the past three years at this tourney he has finished 4th, 7th, and 21st, from 2014 to 2016 respectively.
Phil Mickelson ($9,300) – Is on a pretty good run right now and starting to look more and more like one of the best golfers ever again, which he certainly is. Won here in 2012, was 2nd here last year, and has five top 19’s in his last six starts at Pebble Beach. Has won this tourney a record four times in total over the many years of his career, and is unsurprisingly the all time money leader.
Dustin Johnson ($11,800) – The supremely talented golfer actually missed the cut in his most recent start at the Farmers Insurance Open, but don’t expect the typical top 5 finisher to miss out on Sunday golf this week. He has three top 5’s here in the past six years, and golfing with his future father in-law, Wayne Gretzky, should get him back to an elite finish. Oh, and he has won here twice before, so there’s that as well.
Top 5 value players for this week with a salary of $7,000 or less:
Shane Lowry ($7,000) – Is quite consistent week to week usually settling in for teens, 20’s, or 30’s finishes. Has played in this tournament twice, and was 21st in 2015, and 41st last year.
Vaughn Taylor ($6,900) – Whenever I can get a defending tourney champ for under $7K I usually bite, unless recent form is horrible. Taylor’s isn’t as he has played on the weekend in 9 straight events. Was 10th here in 2015, and could add a third straight top 10 this year which would make his fantasy owners very happy.
Cameron Smith ($6,900) – Was 11th here last year, and has been pretty consistent with good finishes this season on the PGA Tour. Has finishes ranging from 27th to 42nd with just one missed cut in his past four starts.
Jim Herman ($6,900) – Was on a great run with finishes in the 10th to 13th range until he missed the cut last week in Arizona. Was 17th here last year, and 27th in 2014.
Scott Brown ($6,800) – Hasn’t missed a cut since November, making all five cuts since then with a typical finish being in the 40’s to 50’s range. He should have a similar finish this year unless he gets distracted by the free flowing waves of the brilliant Pacific Ocean.
My main lineup for this week so far with $100 left in the maximum salary cap: Brandt Snedeker ($10,000), Phil Mickelson ($9,300), Justin Rose ($9,200), Jim Furyk ($7,500), Shane Lowry ($7,000), and Vaughn Taylor ($6,900).
