A few weeks ago, AirAsia kindly sent my dear girlfriends Christabel, Willabelle and I on a whirlwind 2 Day 1 Night trip to Bangkok, Thailand.
This is my fourth trip to Bangkok and I've flown to Bangkok and back via AirAsia thrice! My AirAsia flights have been nothing but smooth, fuss-free, and this time round, delicious! On our flight to Bangkok, the three of us were served generous portions of authentic Thai Cuisine like Green Curry Chicken with Rice and Mango Sticky Rice. AirAsia prides itself in serving the best asian fare you can find in the skies, and every destination has a customised menu, where you can get to sample authentic dishes from the country you're visiting! For my recent November AirAsia Langkawi trip, Jem and I got to try their Mee Goreng Mamak and Nasi Lemak, dishes that are distinctively Malaysian.
Embarrassingly and regrettably, even though I've been to Bangkok multiple times, I have never tried the famous Thai Mango Sticky Rice, nor have I tried their highly raved-about After You dessert chain. So when we were served Mango Sticky Rice on the flight, I was pretty excited! I don't claim to be a Mango Sticky Rice connoisseur, but Christabel and Willabelle, who have tried the real deal, gave the rice their stamp of authenticity and approval!
What made the flight more memorable was the fact that none of the passengers - except us and the invited media - on our flight knew they were ALL getting free meals on the flight! They were all treated to AirAsia goodie bags and had the same dishes as we did, and everyone participated in a "love it/ hate it" poll after all the meals were served. We also had the privilege of 93.3FM Radio DJs Jia Fa and Pei Fen on board to host the entire event, both of whom pretended to be AirAsia stewards initially but sprung a surprise on the entire plane.
Upon landing and with less than 18 hours to spare in Bangkok, we partied the night away, got tattoos, and gave Hangover II a run for its money managed to fit in a meet up and dinner with our good friend Shiqi from Thea by Thara (a Thai designer label) where she brought us to Tuba Design Furniture and Restaurant for dinner. After which Christabel and I went for an amazing aromatherapy massage at my favourite spa Yunomori Onsen (been there 3 times and counting!), and of course, shopping at Platinum Mall the next morning before we headed for the airport to catch our flight back to Singapore in the afternoon. Talk about making the most of our time there!
After our spa, Christabel and I finally checked into our room (yes, we were lugging our luggage all around the first night) at Chatrium Residence Sathon Bangkok, courtesy of AirAsiaGo. On my previous trips I stayed at hotels near Platinum Mall because my main objectives were to shop around the Platinum/ Siam/ Pratunam region. But if being walking distance to the major shopping districts is secondary and if you are looking at finding serviced apartments equipped with a fridge, a kitchen for cooking, cooking utensils, breakfast services, wifi, then I would definitely recommend Chatrium Residence Sathon Bangkok. The rooms are really spacious, the reception area large and welcoming, and the breakfast buffet fit for multiple kings. If you are living in Bangkok for a couple of months or are traveling with family, having a kitchen would be ideal, and all rooms at Chatrium Sathon are furnished with cooking facilities. Chatrium Sathon is located 10 minutes drive away from Platinum, and would cost you less than 200-300 baht per taxi ride to the city centre.
Thank you AirAsia, AirAsiaGo, and Chatrium Residence Sathon Bangkok for the amazing flight experience and for your hospitality! Amanda, Christabel, Lenne and I are heading to Chiangmai and Pai this weekend courtesy of AirAsia again, till my next holiday blog post!
Love,
Drea
