Fashion took center stage at last night’s VMA Awards.

The MTV Video Music Awards hit the Borough of Churches for the first time ever, and rocked the Barclay’s Center, reaffirming it as one of the hottest performance venues in the nation.

The 2013 VMAs was tightly-organized, but definitely dazzling with elaborate staging, unforgettable performances and over-the-top  performances, including the long-anticipated return of Lady Gaga. But the most shocking and controversial moments were provided by the sexually charged performance by Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won the ‘Best Song With a Message’ for  Same Love and performed it with sensational guest singer Jennifer Hudson.

Justin Timberlake took the Michael Jackson Generation award and celebrated by reuniting with his former boy band mates, ‘N Sync.

But we live and die with the fashion. Here is our report card on the best and worst from last night’s red carpet.

BEST

Taylor Swift in Herve Ledger

Some may think that Herve Ledger is a bit passé, but not for Taylor Swift. She rocked this skin-tight bandage dress with a plunging neckline with confidence.

Ciara in Givenchy

Ciara was by far one of the  best-dressed women at the VMAs. She wore this risqué skin-tight see through dress. Beyoncé wore the same dress to he Met Gala, but she opted for the black. We know whom we prefer in this Givenchy piece. Who do you like?

Shailene Woodley in Emillio Pucci Resort Collection

This outfit is the perfect combination of edge, style, elegance, and youth. As everyone knows, Shailene plays in one of the most anticipated movies of the year – Divergent. It’s an action/adventure film, so we’re guessing that she wanted show off her rocking body in this two-piece Emillio Pucci design.

Naya Rivera in Vintage Paco Rabanne and Marina B Jewelry

Naya has been really stepped up. In the past few weeks she’d been making headlines for the toned body, and her decision to show it whenever she gets the chance. Last night at the VMAs she chose to go the other route, leaving more to imagination. This body hugging pinned side dress shows off Naya’s amazing body without needing to actually show it.

Allison Williams in Valentino

When you think of a sweet pretty girl, you think of Allison Williams. She managed to still be sweet and girly, but with a little grownup tease. This conservative Valentino dress covers her upper body almost entirely and lets her legs to do the talking.

WORST

Miley Cyrus in Dolce & Gabbana

Miley has been trying to re-invent her music, her personality, and her style for quite sometime, but it never really works, does it? She came up short in her impression of  a No Doubt era, Gwen Stefani. Hey Miley! it’s 2013!

Katy Perry in Emanuel Ungaro

Katy has always had a sense of humor in her fashion choices. Sometimes she hits—and this time she missed. The upper part of the dress seemed a bit too tight,  giving the illusion of heaviness to the top, and those gold appliques did not not help.

Lady Gaga in Prabal Gurung

It’s nice to see Lady Gaga in a “normal” outfit, emphasis on the quotation marks. Even with that said, this dress still made it to our worst list due to its too many contrasting fabrics. The fabric looked odd, and was not well photographed. The draping did not elegantly flow. Instead it looked wrinkled and stiff.

Rita Ora in Alex Vauthier

The idea and styling of this dress was not bad, but it was the execution where all went wrong. For someone to pull off this kind of dress with that kind of train they’d need to be very tall. Rita is 5’ 5.” Hence  the dress looked chunky and heavy.

Lil Kim in Anthony Latimore and Christian Louboutins

We’ve saved the worst for last. Lil Kim walked the red carpet in this Anthony Latimore jumpsuit and bright yellow Christian Louboutins. The bodysuit was too tight and the shoes were all wrong for the outfit.

Come to think of it, nothing would go with that ridiculous outfit.
