Merseyrail commissioned a special train to get a bride-to-be to her wedding on time.

Leanne Cole, marrying at St George’s Hall in Liverpool on Sunday 24 August, travelled on a three-carriage train, available only to her and the bridal party, from Fazakerley to Liverpool Central.

The novel arrangement came about after Ms Cole approached staff at Fazakerley station and then contacted us through our website. We were happy to honour her request.

To maintain the bridal theme, Merseyrail decorated Fazakerley station as well as the middle carriage of the train, with balloons and streamers, using colours to match her dress and flowers.

Maarten Spaargaren, Merseyrail’s managing director, said: ‘This was certainly an unusual request, but we had a good think about it, and came to the conclusion that with a bit of effort, it would indeed be possible for us to play a part in what turned out to be a wonderful, memorable day for Ms Cole and her new husband.’

Ms Cole commented: ‘It was an amazing experience that completely exceeded my expectations. Merseyrail had decorated the train so beautifully as well, which was very humbling.’

Added new husband, Andrew Corkery: ‘Leanne said all along that she wanted something a little bit special for our wedding −  we certainly got that from Merseyrail! She looked absolutely lovely, and I think the exclusive train enhanced an already fantastic day.’
