**Statutory and Compliance Manager – 6 month Fixed Term Contract**

**What is the role?**
This position will work closely with the Financial Controller and the Finance Director, playing a pivotal role in improving the month end close and statutory audit processes. The Statutory & Compliance Accountant will also appraise the current control environment within the department and recommend appropriate changes and follow these through to execution.
The position is initially a 6 month Fixed Term Contract with a view to going permanent after this period.
**What is my personal contribution?**
* Work with the Financial Controller and the UK Finance Team to implement a framework to improve controls & procedures, particularly surrounding the month end close and review process, by:
* Coordinating, reviewing and standardising the balance sheet reconciliations for the Twenty Two EMEA group companies.
* Identifying all issues on the balance sheet, documenting them and formulating plans to resolve them
* Coordinating a review of Dow Jones’ transfer pricing arrangements within EMEA.
* Analysing, critically appraising and documenting key controls within the department and identifying any material weaknesses.
* Working with the accountants to prepare detailed schedules showing all tax and statutory compliance deadlines for each group company.
Ensure that standardised Statutory Audit packs are prepared for Dow Jones’ entities (six UK entities, one Belgian, two German, one Spanish and one Swedish) by:
* Coordinating the preparation of reconciliations and working papers with UK & US Accounting Teams
* Identifying any potential issues during the preparation stage and formulating plans to mitigate/alleviate these, or where appropriate, escalate to management to ensure the process stays on track.
* Reviewing the reconciliations and working papers for accuracy and completeness to ensure the documents are to audit standard.
* Assisting the Financial Accountants with more complicated disclosures, as required (UK GAAP and IFRS).
* Reviewing the statutory accounts prior to senior management and auditor review.
* Liaising with auditors and acting as the central point of contact with them on query resolution
Liasing with third party accounting providers to ensure that statutory accounting requirements and deadlines are met for the Dow Jones entities that do not require a statutory audit.
**What do you need from me?**
* Qualified ACA/ACCA with 3 years PQE in audit and compliance.
* Worked in practise and managed audits of mid to large enterprises.
* Experience in the preparation of financial statements under IFRS and UK GAAP.
* Excellent communication skills and experience co-ordinating geographically dispersed teams.
* Excellent time management, prioritisation and organizational skills
* Attention to detail.
* A proven track record of reviewing financial control environments and instigating positive change.
* Strong interpersonal skills which will allow the candidate to review, recommend changes, obtain buy in from key stakeholders and execute on plans.
* Experience managing a small team
* Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
* Ability to work autonomously and get things done
