IBIZA HIGHLIGHTS: NIKKI BEACH IBIZA & FORMENTERA

Sat with candles lit, blankets around me and looking out into the cold London skies whilst writing this, it seems an age ago that I was sunning myself in gorgeous Ibiza. For four days my sister and I indulged in some ‘us time’, reading books on sun loungers, drinking fruity cocktails, eating delicious food and generally just relaxing. Whilst staying at the tranquil Sol Beach House (you can read the review here - http://dottydishes.tumblr.com/post/132669678547/sol-beach-house-ibiza-travel-review-17th-20th), we visited both Nikki Beach Ibiza and Fomentera, and here is a review of both.

NIKKI BEACH IBIZA:

I had heard a lot about Nikki Beach and their range of beach clubs so since we were staying close by to the Ibiza one, we thought we would try it out for the afternoon.

Making ourselves as dressed up as possible in our swimsuits, as we’d heard the Nikki Beach Clubs have quite a glamorous clientele, we arrived at lunchtime and were greeted from our taxi and taken through the stylish indoor restaurant and out to the pool and bed area, which looked out to sea.

We were given a choice of bed and chose one next to the pool, which was prepared by one of the staff so we had nicely propped up pillows and bright orange towels laid out for us. We were given a choice of magazines to read and ordered a Nikki Beach cocktail each, which was fruity, bubbly and refreshing!

The beach club was quite quiet on our arrival but soon filled up, although it retained a relaxing vibe. We could imagine how it had a different feel in the evenings with much more of a party atmosphere. Whilst we were there they still had a DJ playing and we enjoyed the tunes whilst sipping the Nikki Beach own brand wine and digging into a sushi platter, which arrived on a wooden dragon on a tray, so we could enjoy it from the comfort of our lounge bed.

We had a relaxing afternoon at Nikki Beach and it’s great choice if your hotel doesn’t have it’s own pool or you want somewhere else to lounge at for a change. The food and drinks are quite pricey but I think this is because you are paying for the service and being able to stay on your bed all day and be waited upon. We definitely felt it would be a good place to visit with a big group of friends as a bit of a treat.

FORMENTERA:

I had been told that Formentera was absolutely beautiful and a must visit whilst in Ibiza but I don’t think I was prepared for how stunning it actually is. With white white sand and see-through pale blue sea, it really does look like a Caribbean island. We arrived by boat from Santa Eulalia, which took around an hour and was a pleasant journey apart from the rather bumpy sea, and on arrival hired bikes for £8 each for the day. We found it the perfect way to get around and if you want to head to the furthest sunbathing areas then it’s definitely the quickest way to get there and there is an easy track for riding there. The beaches were simply gorgeous and we spent the whole day switching spots on different parts of the beach and people watching - there are lots of people that arrive to Formentera by yacht and a lot of these people were very glamorous! One tip is that there aren’t many places to eat/drink once you’re on the beach and the restaurants that are there are rather expensive. We fortunately had water, crisps and fruit with us so enjoyed these whilst sunbathing and were glad as it would have set us back at least 70 Euros for a light lunch.

Here are a couple of foodie places in the La Savina port area of Formentera that we enjoyed -

Formentera Bakery - This is exactly what we were looking for after biking back from the beaches of Fomentera. We sat in a lovely shaded spot outside on shabby chic style chairs and enjoyed a refreshing fruit smoothie and a mozzarella and tomato bocadillo on homemade olive bread. A really cute little spot that is reasonably priced.

Geckolateria Formentera - We enjoyed a scrumptious ice cream from here before getting the ferry back and it really was some of the best ice cream we’ve ever had. They have a good range of flavours that are wonderfully creamy and are rather generous with their servings too!
