Virtus.Pro overshadowed The Alliance’s new lineup in their dominating 2:0 grand final victory in the ASUS Play It Cool Invitational. VP have claimed the first championship title and win for the new patch 6.84 and have shown their competitors they are prepared for the future meta.
ASUS Play It Cool Invitational was the first LAN in the new balance patch 6.84, transpiring just days before the invites for The International 5 are expected to be revealed. Each team’s aspiration to prove being worthy of an invite provided an amplified energy and sense of intensity.
Virtus.Pro was able to sweep through Ninjas in Pyjamas, 2:0, in the first round of the tournament. Artem “fng” Barshak showed very strong performances and plays and Virtus.Pro appeared to have adjusted well to the changes from the patch, as demonstrated in their drafts. The Alliance were able to completely dominate LemonDogs in the first game, giving fans and supporters even more reason to cheer for the return of Henrik “AdmiralBulldog” Ahnberg and his signature Lone Druid. They were able to continue their momentum in the second game, sweeping the newly sponsored Christopher “Chrillee” Wåhlin and friends, 2:0.
Virtus.Pro and Alliance faced off in the grand finals. VP set the tone for the best of three series immediately, when they secured both first blood and killed the courier in the first game. VP would maintain the control over the Swedes until the “GG” was called in the second game. Both teams are in contention for invites to TI5, leaving many to wonder if the results of this match will have any bearing on receiving one.

ESL Gaming had announced the impromptu ASUS Play It Cool LAN tournament earlier this week, releasing the schedule and brackets merely hours ago. The ASUS Play It Cool Dota 2 segment was in conjunction with ESL’s Heroes of the Storm and Hearthstone tournaments which commenced on May 1. Part of the reason for the tournament was to benchmark two new ASUS gaming laptops and not only test their durability, but allow for spectators to have access to review the new products.

Alliance will be heading to China for the i-League playoffs, on May 24, and Germany for ESL One Frankfurt, June 20. Virtus.Pro will be joining them in Germany for ESL One Frankfurt and are currently still playing in the Dota Pit playoffs and have qualified for Esportal. Both teams will also be competing in DreamLeague Season 3 beginning tomorrow night, for the chance to be one of six teams to compete in the LAN playoffs in Sweden, this June.
