As cannabis becomes increasingly more accepted in society, adults are developing an interest –or shall we say, taste—in cannabis. Edible cannabis (called edibles for short) are cannabis-infused food products that range from cooking oils and desserts to beverages, and even mints.
Edibles aren’t exactly what they were 20-30 years ago. They’re more potent and far better tasting than the space cakes and brownies that tasted of nothing but weed from back in the day, and now you can indulge in a variety of edibles from your local dispensary.
Edibles are a great alternative for people who want to consume cannabis discreetly, and also don’t want to worry about the health risks associated with smoking. They are known to produce more of a body high, providing effects similar to an indica strain. While most people feel the effects of smoking or vaping cannabis instantly, edibles usually take longer for the effects to set in, as the THC must break down in your stomach before entering your bloodstream. For some people, the “high” from consuming an edible lasts longer and is far more intense than smoking cannabis.
Responsible cannabis consumers are aware. Read the label on edible packages before you consume, which should clearly state how many milligrams of THC are present, either per serving or for the entire edible. Some edibles will be packaged as one serving or dose, while others will not. Don’t get confused thinking the entire edible contains only 10 mg of THC, when it’s actually the dose per serving. Many people’s first time trying an edible turns into their worst nightmare, all because they didn’t read the package correctly, or consumed more than was recommended before waiting to see how the edible affected them.
