Travelling around the world as a poker player means a luxury lifestyle with constant VIP treatment, but it is not just the pros that have this luxury. Poker has become one of the most popular sporting attractions in the world. There is still debate whether or not poker is in fact a sport, but there can be no denying it is certainly as popular as many of the much watched and played sports around the world. With that, there is what seems like limitless options when it comes to travelling the world to find live poker spots.
Monte Carlo’s EPT
On the Mediterranean Sea sits the Maritime Alps stretching across the French Riviera. Once a year the the European Poker Tour comes to town where the tournaments played there pay out some of the highest prizes in the world and attract the biggest names in poker.
Las Vegas’s WSOP
You really couldn’t mention poker tournaments around the world without mentioning Las Vegas, where the World Series of Poker is played out every year. This year it is the 44th WSOP and there have already been a handful of million dollar prize pools dished out at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. The event has been running since May 29th and will end July 15th with a similar schedule every year, and every time the main event comes around it attracts more than 6,000 players, and conjures up multi-million dollar winners. Greg Merson won $8,531,853 last year, and in 2006 Jamie Gold netted $12 million.
Melbourne Australia’s WSOP and Aussie Millions
In the Southern Hemisphere over in the Pacific region, the WSOP makes its presence known once again. The Melbourne Crown Casino is the largest casino in the Southern Hemisphere and it is well-known for not just the WSOP Asia Pacific, but also the massive Aussie Millions event. Anyone can join into the event as long as they have the cash to put up front. The prize pools in both are huge, but it is the Aussie Millions that is the most expensive in terms of buy-ins, but also the most rewarding when it comes to cash pay-outs. At the casino, there are also plenty of live cash games during the tournaments.
Sao Paulo and the BSOP
Moving over to the opposite side of the Southern Hemisphere in the continent of South America there is the BSOP. The biggest hotel in Brazil is in Sao Paulo called the Holiday Inn Parque Anhembi where poker players will find plenty of live poker all year around. However, the liveliest poker comes to the city when the Brazilian Series of Poker hits the city. In fact the tournament is sponsored by none other than Full Tilt Poker making this a very special event with massive cash prizes up for grabs.
