This is a brand new complex off Edmonds Way and when I was doing research could not find any pictures of the interiors of the units. When we did our tour I took a few and they can be found here http://s1071.photobucket.com/albums/u512/turn2jaden/. Their website was merely a flash page but has been upgraded now to include floor plans and more info. The website is http://liveatcompass.com.
I am helping my son find his first place and am pretty picky about where he lives and what he moves in to, due to the many mistakes I made when I was young and naive. I spent a good 30 or 40 hours researching online and included reading reviews of apartments. Moving in to a new place can be costly and for a person who is already paying bills and rent on his own coming up with the deposits and first month can break you. My first criteria was location, he really wanted north end and was looking in Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood, Bothell, Everett. I am a Bellevue - Queen Anne snob and was not happy with those areas primarily due to the high crime statistics. I focused on Edmonds as it is an upper class city with low crime rate and is small and historical. I looked for New and Newer apartments because when you rent older places you face numerous problems with appliances - plumbing - cabinets - doors - carpeting etc... Most apartments only employ handymen who do bandaid fixes and you are stuck repeatedly with the same problems. I found the apartments that claimed "newly rennovated" mainly put new coats of paint and do most of the updates to the main clubhouse and as many reviewers stated "new paint - same problems".
Compass offered brand new units with high-end appliances - berber carpeting - european cabinets and upgrades throughout. Even the stackable washer-dryer is full-size size and in its own area with shelving next to it. He even gets to pick a accent wall color for the unit. One of my criteria was security and although the bigger building has intercom access and underground parking (units wont be ready untill July) the smaller building did not. I did learn that the entire complex will be gated with security entrace soon so it fulfilled that criteria. They will have a game room with pool tables - 24hr fitness center and even concierge pick-up dry cleaning- all the things you would find in the expensive buildings in downtown Seattle. They worked with my sons budget and through dozens of emails back and forth with Cassandra the apartment manager we were able to get my son a deal of a lifetime. She gave him a $99.00 deposit move-in special and 5 weeks free rent (to start one month after move-in) and a free carport space. There is no available street parking since Edmonds Way is a main street so you have to get a carport or garage parking spot.
Now each building has separate floor plans - the smaller building (more quiet) has the Saturna (2bed 2 bath) and another floor plan which has 100ft more space but it limited to the 5 first floor units and are all rented. My son rented the Saturna which I think has small bedrooms but I haven't rented an apartment for awhile, my son thinks they are wonderful and prefers the very large living room - dining room and kitchen. All of the units have cathedral ceilings so it makes the unit seem even bigger. They are huge and have floor to ceiling windows and in the middle has what is called a juliet balcony. Basically it is just a little ledge from the window with a balcony and you cannot step out on it - apparently they are named after Romeo and Juliet. The cool thing about these units is there is only 1 unit for both sides of the building, meaning your apartment spans both front and back of building. Living room faces street and bedroom faces back parking lot, so you don't have neighbors sharing a wall only floor or ceiling depending on floor you pick.
The quality of the interior is unsurpassed and so is the manager Cassandra, she alone is worth renting there. Cassandra works endlessly and will do whatever she can to be accommodating - so no worries about dealing with snobby rental agents that don't care about you - or promise you one thing verbally and then deny they did. One of the things the current website doesn't cover is the Pet Policy - my son has a dog and it is a $250 non-fundable fee and a $250 refundable deposit plus a monthly Pet charge. I beleive they allow up to 2 dogs and am not sure if they have breed restrictions.... Also some of the apartment listings websites have some errors on the amenities they offer so I will tell you they don't have the following: - Pool - Jacuzzi - Oversized Bathtubs- Walk-in Showers - Double Vanities - Ice Maker - Fireplaces. Air conditioning will be a future option you can rent a floor standing unit that will connect to a porthole already in place. Also in the smaller building there are no elevators so take your furniture in to consideration when choosing what floor to rent. The large building will have underground parking and elevators but units aren't available until July 1 - I beleive they are having pre-lease specials so if you don't want to move to July that might be a good fit for you. The smaller building has carports and single parking spots under the back of the building.
I had told my son about the apartment weeks ago and he drove by it and was unimpressed. I learned he was impressed by huge Clubhouses and swimming pools and basketball courts (all things he would never have time to use he works 7 days a week). Since at the time there wasn't much on the website to woo him with - I went there myself and got to see an unfinished unit in the larger building (contruction guys showed it to me). I went back to my son and pushed him again to see one in person and he gave in. Once there he saw the quality (he even asked about the Berber carpets which I had been talking about for weeks) and was sold. We went to look at one more place on Queen Anne and although it was gorgeus and had views and all the things my son said he wanted (swimming pool , jacuzzi etc) my son said "the appliances are older and used and i don't like the carpet and the cubboards are cheap". He is in love with Compass - so it just goes to show you what a difference the inside of a new building can make.
More pictures will be posted on 5/13/2012 on the photobucket link.
