Huge crowds descended on Killybegs at the weekend to attend Hooked 2015, which was organised by the Killybegs Community Council and funded by FLAG, (Fisheries Local Action Groups).

Blessed with great weather the event was a huge achievement in many ways , but mainly as it was organised and put together in such a short space of time.

BIM and The Food Coast Donegal worked with the Community Council to hold Regional Chowder Cook Off and the winner will go onto to represent Donegal in the National Chowder Competition in Kinsale in 2016.

The rest of the festival was built around this event which Killybegs hopes to build on each year.

The chowder competition was won by Nancy’s Bar in Ballyliffen. Hundreds of people queued to sample and judge the different chowder’s on offer.

Outside in the bright sunshine, displays of all different spices of fish were a huge attraction to the younger generation with ‘Find the net, penalty shoot offs to keep them happy.

Also Mr Majestic was happily bouncing about doing tricks and balloon making and face painting the many young artists.

Filleting competition was a huge crowd attraction with local factories competiting to show off there skills.

The Shine Family had the Fish Tram on site feeding the public free fish and chips all day long with the fish kindly sponosred by Molloy Fish from Stragar and donations where made to go towards Donegal Cancer Bus Services.

Inside was a hive of activity all day long with cooking demonstrations by local restaurants, story telling, stalls and displays showing all that the fishing town has to offer.

The Skipper also kindly sponosered for the Local schools to enter an art competition for the children to design the new logo for HOOKED. All enteries were on display all day for viewing.
