Domain Shane: Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
ChilliSauce.com sold for 10,000 USD recently at Sedo, vs 939 USD on 2016-01-18 at NameJet. Awesome return in less than a month; more than 8x after commission. Appears to be an upgrade from the .co.uk, and a screenshot is below. The domain is used as a brandable, not to sell the product, as the site promotes their travel and event planning services. “Making weekends count. www.chillisauce.co.uk for unforgettable stag weekends, hen parties, activity breaks & events.“
Purefy.com sold for 9,600 USD recently at SnapNames, vs 900 USD on 2011-04-28 at Sedo. I have no idea what this term means. The domain is parked and under privacy protection.
SNN.net sold for 4,288 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 1,360 USD on 2010-12-02 at NameJet. LLL.net continue to sell strong.
WordGenius.com sold for 3,000 USD recently at BuyDomains, vs 1,101 USD on 2015-03-21 at NameJet. Sold return in a year.
HappyEvent.com sold for 1,344 USD recently at Sedo, vs 343 USD on 2014-11-15 at NameJet. Picked up by an events firm in France — GroupeAVS.com.
KHDN.com sold for 1,900 USD recently at Sedo, vs 153 USD on 2010-09-17 at GoDaddy.
TNRB.com sold for 2,200 USD recently at NameJet, vs 160 USD on 2010-10-30 at NameJet. A couple returns greater than 10x for LLLL.com picked up back in 2010.
Flops
MINU.com sold for 9,900 USD recently at NameJet, vs 15,100 USD on 2015-11-19 at NameJet. That’s quite a drop in value in three months, on the same platform.
Loan.cc sold for 9,650 USD recently at Flippa, vs 13,500 USD on 2011-06-08 at Afternic. Surprised to see this one sell for such a price back in 2011.
HDVD.com sold for 2,800 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 7,000 USD on 2011-01-10 at Sedo. The V knocks it out of Chinese favor, and HD may (?) have peaked in popularity a year or two ago?
Jogo.tv sold for 1,050 USD recently at DropCatch, vs 19,650 USD on 2013-03-06 at Sedo. Ouch. $20k on a domain three years ago, then they drop it?
FunStuffForDogs.com sold for 455 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 1,825 USD on 2015-02-05 at GoDaddy. Hopefully it was an end user that made such a silly acquisition last year……if it was a domainer, they’ve got alot to learn. Looks like the name had been developed and has some page rank so perhaps that is where the value is. I wouldn’t hand-reg this domain.
NewYorkDUILawyer.com sold for 755 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,300 USD on 2011-12-08 at NameJet. CPC of $67, but these long keyword domains don’t sell like they used to, at least to domainers.
SocialMediaPlan.com sold for 328 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 4,000 USD on 2014-04-09 at Sedo. Similar situation as the domain above…..long is out of favor, despite 3,500 searches and $8.50 CPC, per Estibot.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
