This week we’ve been excerpting portions of our DogTipper’s Texas with Dogs guidebook (Open Road, distributed by Simon & Schuster). Dog-Friendly Accommodations Websites

BringFido.com. Along with searching for pet-friendly hotels (as well as restaurants, attractions, dog parks, events, and more) on this site, you can also call toll-free to speak with one of Bring Fido’s travel agents. DogFriendly.com. Since 1998, this site has identified dog-friendly US and Canada hotels, restaurants and attractions. Info: www.dogfriendly.com.

GoPetFriendly.com. Specializing in US and Canada coverage, this site features a handy Road Trip Planner to help you map out your next dog vacation, making recommendations from among the site’s 60,000 listings that fall along your route. TripswithPets.com. This site is searchable by route and also includes special sections on air travel and airline policies. Info: www.tripswithpets.com.

National Magazines

Cesar’s Way Magazine. Adoption, pet products, travel, celebrity canines, and more are featured in this bimonthly magazine. Info: cesarsway.com.

Dog Fancy Magazine. Although this magazine focuses on purebred dogs, it also includes a special section on rescue and frequently includes travel destinations. Info: www.dogchannel.com.

FIDO Friendly Magazine. This travel magazine whose motto is “Leave no dog behind”® showcases the best places to travel with your dog, from inexpensive retreats to dream vacations. Info: www.fidofriendly.com.

Life + Dog Magazine. Published in Houston but distributed to dog lovers across the country, this stylish magazine covers everything from rescue to pet products to dog-loving celebrities. Info: www.lifeanddog.com.

Modern Dog Magazine. Stylish dog accessories and gear take center stage in this bimonthly magazine which also features travel and dog-centric events. Info: moderndogmagazine.com.

Austin

Austin Pets Directory. Distributed free at many pet locations around town, back issues of this magazine featuring many local events are also available online. Info: www.austinpetsdirectory.com.

Haute Dog Magazine. You’ll find dog parks, products, great photography, local events and more in this magazine and its annual “Ultimate Guide”. Info: hautedogmagazine.com.

Dallas-Fort Worth

Dallas Dog Life. This online resource includes an extensive events calendar as well as information on local rescue groups, volunteer opportunities, and local pet businesses. Info: dallasdoglife.com.

DFW Dogs. This online resource features dog news, dog-centric events, and a large database of dog businesses in the Metroplex and listings of all dog parks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Info: www.dfwdogs.com.

For the Love of Dogs TV. “For the Love of Dogs” is a production of American Dog Rescue Foundation and the Arthur E. Benjamin Foundation. New episodes air Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. on Verizon UAN/Channel 27 in Dallas and now on KUGB/Channel 28.2 in Houston, and are available online.
