His vocals on hits like “Rock Lobster” and “Roam” never fail to get revelers out on the dance floor, and now the voice of The B-52s frontman Fred Schneider has dog devotees dancing on air as the singer narrates a shelter animal-themed children’s story that benefits paws causes.
In an audio book CD included with the just published paperback book Sassafrass Jones and the Search for a Forever Home, Fred Schneider tells the tale of Sassafrass– a Pekingese with an eye condition who has been waiting for a pet parent of her own for two years at the Last Chance Adoption Centre– and her new friend Madeline, a milliner mouse from Habersham Forest.
Showing his support for the story, Schneider has entertained audiences of animal-loving little ones in recent weeks with readings benefiting animal welfare charities at the book’s launch at Verdura in New York City and at the Rosen Centre hotel in Orlando, Florida.
Containing more than 50 colorful images by photographer Tomas Espinoza, proceeds from authors Cathleen Smith Bresciani and Rich Eldredge’s book benefits a number of national and local organizations, including The Humane Society of New York and Canine Companions for Independence.
