The term “dog years” is quite a familiar thing to us. A lot of people think that there is a general or specific time length that can define the years of a dog. However, that is not just the case. The life expectancy of a dog varies depending on several factors. One such factor is breed. The following are the 10 shortest living dog breeds:

Bloodhound

Bloodhounds are considered as a favorite among those who love search and rescue, as well as tracking. They have the capability to use their noses really well. They are large dogs with a life expectancy between 9 and 11 years.

Scottish Deerhound

Scottish Deerhound quite resembles their cousins Irish Wolfhounds. Even though they may look similar, they are a totally different breed. They are perfect for lure coursing because they have been primarily bred for hunting deer by means of running. The average life expectancy of this breed is 8-10 years.

Saint Bernard

It was Beethoven who made this breed of dog very famous. As seen in the movie, they are the best breeds for a great companion. However, they have a short life expectancy between 8 and 10 years.

Newfoundland

This breed is great for family companions. They also thrive well in colder locations. The reason for the name is that they came from Newfoundland, Canada. They have a shorter life span of 8 to 10 years.

Leonbergers

Leonbergers look really similar to fluffy lions or certain mythical creatures. They originate from Leonberg, Germany, thus the name. It has been said that this particular breed was created in order to resemble a particular lion usually found on the town crest. It has a life expectancy of 8 to 9 years.

If we are talking about wrinkles, this breed might win award for being the wrinkliest. It has an average life span of 7 to 9 years.
