Joe Pattison

BELMONT – Joseph “Joe” William Pattison, 89, died on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. He was born in Marseilles, Ill., on Dec. 1, 1923, to Joseph and Edna Gage Pattison. He was born 50 days after his dad died of injuries received in a gas explosion.

He graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1942. He was a Navy Seabee veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific area. He was a member of the Milwaukee Musicians association local 8 for 40 years and he worked gigs for 30 years under the name of Pat Pattison. He belonged to the I.B.E.W. broadcast engineer for 32 years. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 6112 in Belmont and a member of N.S.V.A. (Navy Seabee Veterans of America). He attended Praise Fellowship Church in Sheboygan and also had attended the Belmont Methodist Church.

He is survived by one son, Lee (Angelica) Pattison of Cedar Grove; one daughter, Tina (Rich) Hicks of Waxhaw, N.C.; and one stepson, Tim (Greta) Burton of Golden; six grandchildren, Zachary (Angela) Pattison, Amber (Tony) Young, Sheena Pattison, Adam Wolf, Jesse Wolf and Gracie Hicks; four stepgrandchildren, Ghannon (Carol) Burton, Bret (Paige) Burton, Tyler (Brittany) Burton and Marisa Burton (Blake Cass); six great-grandchildren, Jordan Young, Alyxis Young, Kyden Young, Anjani Phillips, Violet Pattison and Shophia Pattison; eight stepgreat-grandchildren, Kade Burton, Garrett Burton, Julianna Burton, Curt Burton, Blake Burton, Lawson Burton, Kaki Burton and Tryce Burton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Marian Lenicheck Pattison and Betty Lou Burton Pattison; one stepson, Zachary Burton; one grandson, Ian Pattison; two stepgrandsons, Clint Burton and Chad Burton; and one brother; Robert Pattison.

Private family services were held.

A memorial fund to the N.S.V.A. (Navy Seabee Veterans of America) has been established in his name. Matilda Belue

BURNSVILLE – Matilda Laverne Vanderford Belue, 49, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at her home. She was born Sept. 22, 1964, to Jimmy and Doris Brown Vanderford. She was a member of Rowland Mills Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed horses and horseback riding.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at Rowland Mills Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Frankie Smith officiating. Burial will be at Rowland Mills Cemetery. McMillan Funeral Home of Booneville is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by two sons, Dustin Crump and his father, Dewayne Crump, and Austin Belue and his father, John Belue; her father, Jimmy Vanderford, his wife, Ava, and her two children, Bruce (Donna) Evans and Sandy (Al) Wilkenson; two sisters, Gogie Goodson and her husband, Bill, of New Site and Teresa Lauderdale and her son, Davis, of Booneville; one brother, Marty Vanderford of Red Bay, Ala.; her stepfather, R.B. Moss; a stepsister, Edith Stevens; a special friend, Angel James; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded on death by her mother, Doris; and her grandparents, Milton and Martha Vanderford.

Visitation will continue until service time today at the church.

Grady Ferguson

BRUCE – Grady T. Ferguson, 89, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Bruce. He was a retired teacher and coach, a former Calhoun County Superintendent of Education. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Italy for two years. After coming home from military service he went to Northwest Jr. College and Bethel College in Bethel, Tenn. He became a teacher and football coach. He coached at Crowder, Calhoun City, Algoma, Bruce, Iuka, Fayette County, Tenn., South Pontotoc and Calhoun Academy. He was a member and Sunday School teacher, at First Baptist Church in Bruce.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. Bro. Mickey Ferguson will officiate, and Bro. Darrell Logan will assist. Burial with military honors will be at Bruce Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Ora Mae Box Ferguson of Bruce; three daughters, Kay Ferguson Tyler of Bruce, Joan Ferguson Claunch of Bruce and Pam Ferguson Todd of Burnsville; seven grandchildren, Mark (Sheila) Ferguson of Bruce, Jeff (Sandy) Ferguson of Bruce, Chris (Cathy) Smith of Horn Lake, Robert (Teena) Tyler of Bruce, Traci (James) Maglothin of Horn Lake, Alison (Phillip) Tyler of Bruce, Mandy (Joey) Johnson of Iuka; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Velton E. Ferguson and Ida Mae McCormick Ferguson; a son, Pat Ferguson; a sister Lorene Murphree; and a brother, Alon Ferguson.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and a great-grandson. Honorary pallbearers will be football players.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

TUPELO – Ruth Louise Colbert McCollum, 75, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements will be announced at a later time by Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Louis Holland

BOONEVILLE – Louis W. Holland, 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a member of Beckley Chapel C.M.E. Church.

A celebration of his life will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at J.W. Porter’s Chapel with the Rev. Charles Shack, officiating. Interment will be in New Hebron Church Cemetery in Arcadia, La. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his sons, Anthony Dewayne (Earlene) Holland of Booneville and Mark (J.J.) Avery Holland of California; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be at the J.W. Porter’s Chapel from 3 p.m. until service time Sunday.

Robert Parker

SHERMAN – Robert Parker, 64, died Thursday Oct. 24, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at New Liberty Baptist Church in Vardaman with Bro. Jimmy Vance officiating. Burial will be in the New Liberty Cemetery. Kesler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Bridgett Hendrix (Cody) of Baldwyn; three sons, Tim Parker of Tupelo, Lane Parker (Crystal) of Belmont and Joey Parker (Lisa) of Jackson; two sisters, Sue Langford (Gene) and Lou Long, both of Calhoun City; two brothers, Charlie Parker (Diane) and Wayne Parker (Barbara), both of Calhoun City; 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Lizzie Parker; two brothers, James and Howell Parker.

Pallbearers will be Ronald, Ricky, Jimmy and Greg Parker, Tony Langford and Bryan Allen Long.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today.

Mary Burleson

NETTLETON – Mary Clements Walls Burleson, 85, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Golden Living Center of Amory. She was born on Nov. 3, 1927, in Calhoun County to Elmer and Birtie Barnett Clements. She had lived most of her life in Nettleton. She was a retired factory worker and a Baptist. She enjoyed cooking, dancing and spending time with her family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with the Rev. Eddie Clayton officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Allen Walls (Wilma) of Nettleton; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Burleson; her parents; one son, Thomas A. Walls; one sister, Sarah Wall; four brothers, Rex Clements, Lee Clements, Walter Clements and George J. Clements; one great-great-granddaughter, Autumn Jade Morris.

Pallbearers will be Tristen Weaver, Caleb Weaver, Jeffery Sullivan, Hunter Holley, Nathaniel Langely and Dane Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Walls, Jerome Walls and Bodie Walls.

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. – Patricia Grant “Pat” Clark, 60, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis after a brief illness. A Plantersville native, she was the wife of Steve Clark, daughter of Niecy Grant and the late W. T. “Tack” Grant of Plantersville, and sister of Freddy Grant and Charlotte Diggs Grant.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Plantersville United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Grant Family Plot at Plantersville Cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Lanie Mae Webb, 83, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Pekin Manor in Pekin, Ill. She was a native of Oxford.

PONTOTOC – Betty Tallent Wilhite, 78, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 26,1935, to Earl Lee and Fairy Denton. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She loved quilting and her family.

Survivors include one son, Larry Tallent (Judy) of Cairo; two daughters, Patsy Mills of Mantachie and Brenda Roberson (Steve) of Cairo; two brothers, Kenneth Denton and Jerry Denton (Mary Ann), both of New Albany; one sister, Jean Mayo (Boyce) of New Albany; 14 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; special friend, J.W. McClure and his family, Junior, Teresa, Jim and their children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Lonnie Tallent and Lavone Wilhite; two daughters, Mary Gale (son-in-law Preston Gale) and Sandra Gale; son-in-law, Robby Mills; two grandsons, Nickey Gant and Michael Shane Gant; and a sister-in-law, Linda Denton.

Edith Johnson

BOONEVILLE – Edith Jane Henderson “Mama E” Johnson, 88, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Prentiss County to John Thomas Henderson and Rilla Mae Murphy Henderson. She was a homemaker and caretaker. She attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Booneville. She enjoyed taking care of family, collecting dolls and dancing.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Joel Tittle, Bro. Danny Stites and Bro. Jimmy Burcham officiating. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery.

She is survived by a son, Dorce Ray Barrett (Sheila) of Booneville; two sisters, Glenna Jackson and Lydia Smith, both of Booneville; three grandchildren, Debbie Barrett, Ricky Barrett and Angela Barrett Robinson, all of Booneville; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Dale Barrett, Gregory Dale Barrett, Kayla Rae Robinson and Steven Lee Barrett; a great-great-grandson, Kite Wayne Morrison; two special nieces, Elana Garvin and Rita Clifford.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Barrett; second husband, Cephus Johnson, her parents; a brother, Austin Henderson; and two sister, Ceola Saylors, and Lula Mae Hutchens.

VERONA – Mary Nell Holt Bird, 87, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks in Verona.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen. Burial will follow in Crenshaw Cemetery in Greenwood Springs.

He was in the furniture business, working at Benchcraft and Gentry. He enjoyed doing lawn work. He was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lula Beaty Rose of Ripley; three sons, William Rose (Diane) of Mt. Pleasant, Billy Rose (Mary) of Ripley and Cary Rose (Sheri) of Belden; one sister, Bernice Hutchinson; one brother, Robert Rose of Durango, Colo.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ira Rose; his mother, Alta Ayers Rose Thomas; and one grandchild.
