TUPELO – Christopher Mink will not go to trial today on charges he kidnapped and set fire to a woman and the woods in 2012.

Attorneys for the state and Mink apparently agreed and gained approval late Tuesday for a psychological evaluation.

A Lee County grand jury indicted Mink last February on five counts associated with the alleged crimes against Norma Leann Horn and the woods fire out from Baldwyn in September 2012.

While the psych test order was not yet filed this morning, sources close to the case say Circuit Judge Paul Funderburk approved evaluation of Mink’s current mental state, as well as his status at the time of the alleged attack.

Mink remains in the Lee County Jail without bond.

A new trial could be set for the February term of circuit court.

Mink apparently refused a sentence deal offered by the District Attorney’s Office, if he pleaded guilty and avoided a trial.

He faces lengthy prison time, if he’s found guilty on all counts.

More details in Thursday’s Daily Journal.
