Ritesh Deshmukh has won audience’s heart by his comedy and sense of Humour. He has not been seen in different roles except for a couple of movies like Ek Villian. Banjo is a musical instrument. In Banjo Ritesh Deshmukh is playing a musician who plays Banjo. Yes, it is not out an out comedy film but a musical romantic film. Ritesh is a Banjo player in it.

The story revolves around the band of musicians who live in the slums of Mumbai and play music, especially at the Ganpati Festivals. Taarat (Ritesh Deshmukh), Paper (Aditya Kumar), Baaja (Ram Menon) and Grease (Dharmesh) are the band members. However, their life changes when one of the NRI singer Chris (Nargis Fakhri) is mesmerized by their Ganpati tune and come to Mumbai to search them. She ends up in the slum and meets the Banjo players not knowing they are the one she is searching for. Ritesh falls in love with Nargis, cliché, but how Nargis makes them ready for the international show after knowing them, is what the story is about.

Talking about the characters essayed by the actors. Ritesh and their band members look like rock musicians and there can be nuances when you recall about Ranbir’s Rockstar. But Banjo fails to connect audiences with such not so new plot. Although the band members including Ritesh has done a decent job, much disappointment comes in front of the role of Nargis Fakhri. She neither takes up the dialect properly nor she gives any of the expressions required. Just a single expression in every frame in the entire film. Ravi Jadhav’s biggest failure would be to cast Nargis in the film. Ravi Jadhav is well-known director of Marathi films and he has done a good job debuting in his first Bollywood movie.

The music as regards to being a musical film is good but not that good which would be remembered for years. The climax has to be finished with an impactful Ganpati song and why do makers feel Ganpati song ending would always be loved. The song is good and hard-hitting but not like, we have heard before. Vishal and Shekhar tried to grip the audiences with different numbers but fail to do so.
All in All, Banjo is a good musical movie having some comedy scenes too but not at all a movie to be watched again and again. If you love, watching Ritesh on the screen go over this weekend otherwise can give it a miss too!
