So, I'll preface this with saying I have a bad knee, and it only allows me to do so much in a day. So this will be a slow build. What I'm planning is an aperiodic enclosure, using the back wall of the truck as part of the enclosure. By doing this, I hope to gain some of the lower freq. you lose with a standard sealed box.
Gear being used:
Alpine CDE-117 HU
Alpine KTP-445u universal power pack amp for front stage
JL Audio C2-250 front stage running passive
Alpine PDX-M12 sub amp birth sheet rating of 1246w at 4 ohms.
Shok Industries Triton 12" subs.
My reasons for doing aperiodic are twofold, one to gain the lower freq. back, and two, with the crossbrace in the truck, if you build a standard box around it, it interferes with mounting anything bigger than a 10" sub.
Some gear pics:
I'm going to have to get "real" 12ga. speaker wire, as the stuff that came in the kit looks like 16ga. Everything else is there though, so it's a pretty complete wiring kit for what I paid. Then there's the amp. The PDX-M12 with a birth sheet of 1246w. Should be enough power.
The subs:
The subs are really nice, with tinsel leads woven into the spider, and a 3" underhung VC for good power handling. They say 500w, but I've heard guys running up to 1k on them, with no problems.
Now, the construction:
First, the bottom of the cab rolls in a little, maybe a .25", so I had to sand the bottom corners of the side pieces in a little to get a fit that I was happy with. Second, you can see right in the middle, the seat back bracket that you have to build around. Not a real problem, but the back wall at that point has a stamping in it where it moves in and out. So some sanding of the top piece was in order, to get a tight fit along the back wall.
All framed in, and this is where my knee gave out. I would love to get further tonight, but it's all up to my knee at this point. The next step is screwing it to the back brace and a few points along the bottom and top of the cab, to get a secure fit. I also have to build some bracing in the middle of the box, otherwise the baffle will flex.
