Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Remember Viewfinders? I loved them as a kid. Loved. I was actually looking for one for our kids because I was thinking how awesome they were. I saw these Personalized Viewfinders from Image3D and decided to check them out.

This viewfinder has OUR family photos. How much cooler can it get?! It seems like it'd be a great gift for family members (read: grandparents), but I think it's an even better gift for kids. My son G (30 months old) loves gadgets and looking through things (ie microscope, camera), but he also reallllllly loves looking at pictures of himself or people he knows. This toy was a huge win. I got it in yesterday and G instantly confiscated it and has been carrying it around, "snapping pictures," looking into it and remarking on which family member he sees in it, and calling it his "camera." I'm not sure about everyone else, but I LOVE getting him toys that aren't super popular anymore that *I* loved as a kid. This was one of my favorites. Like WHY did these cease to be popular?!

It was fairly easy to order through the Image3D Website... I went to their website and uploaded the pictures that I wanted on it. The hardest thing for me was trying to pick which pictures I wanted as I could only do 7 on the reel. You can get additional reels, however, if you want a lot of them. You can also personalize the Viewfinder with your name on it which I think is a nice touch.

I think I might order a few regular Viewmaster reels for children to go with it (the kind we had as kids!) because according to the FAQ on the company's website, these will also "play" those.

The only thing that my husband mentioned that he didn't like was that he felt like they weren't "3D" enough... but I think they're similar to the ones we had as kids in terms of being 3D. I think the problem is that 3D means something VERY different now than it did "back in the day." I don't think it's going to make a huge difference to the kids or to the type of people who would appreciate the gift... the idea is that it's this cool vintage toy with your own photos in it.

As you can see, both my kiddos loved this... although to be honest, K only wanted to chew on it a little. Silly teething baby.
