Leaders in Using Electronic Medical Records and Medical Home Model to Improve Patient Care
Sparked by a $6 million, two-year grant from Bethesda Inc., TriHealth announced in December 2010 TriHealth adopted the Patient-Centered Medical Home model as the preferred model of care for its employed primary care practices. Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) are a critical component of this initiative. Through the use of integrated EMRs, TriHealth’s employed physician practices have developed a Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW). The CDW enables the practices to generate on-demand reports about treatment recommendations, patient vital statistics and treatment compliance. Physicians and office staff can then use that data to improve health through simple action steps like check-up reminder calls or complex steps such as revising treatment programs and engaging needed specialists.
Raising the Bar on Breast Care
In August 2009, Bethesda North Hospital opened the doors to a new 47,755 square-foot outpatient imaging facility, which houses the Mary Jo Cropper Family Center for Breast Care at Bethesda North. The Breast Center is the first in the Greater Cincinnati area to achieve a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), and it was only the sixth breast center in Ohio to earn the designation. Physicians at the Breast Center manage extensive clinical research projects and have created a panel of specialists that meets regularly to confer about tough cases. The Center is known for developing the region’s first Breast MRI Registry and for implementing forward-thinking, evidence-based advancements in breast care such as the use of Radioactive Seed Localization for more effective diagnosis and the use of Cryoablation technology to treat breast tumors.
Expanding Local Options for Clinical Trials
After a rigorous selection process, TriHealth’s Hatton Institute Clinical Trials Program has been selected to partner with the Quintiles Corporation. Hatton was chosen for its reputation and past work experience with the biopharmaceutical company. The partnership will expand access for TriHealth patients to participate in clinical trials and expand access for established investigators at TriHealth to conduct clinical trials.
