There’s something magical about kids’ drawings. It doesn’t matter how poorly drawn or nonsensical they are, you can tell that there’s an enthusiasm in drawing something that lots of adults lack. They don’t seem to care about getting a picture to look exactly like what they’re drawing. They just care about having fun.

And that pursuit of fun is what ultimately ends up making kids’ drawings some of the most interesting to look at.

But with the current onslaught of technology, it seems like more kids are content to play on an iPad or cell phone than actually sit down and create something.

But these artists are looking to combat that with The Monster Project.

The initiative is in its second year and is encouraging children to draw pictures of monsters.

It then asks artists from all over the world to recreate the children’s drawings into grown up works of art.

The results aren’t restricted to just drawings: sculptors, animators, designers, and painters from around the world are re-creating these wild pictures.

The volunteer group of adult artists then send the completed works to the kids who originally inspired their creations.

In addition to giving kids awesome works of art, the project wants to encourage more kids to explore their creative sides.

The project “hopes to help them recognize the value of their ideas and make them feel excited about the potential of their own minds.”

“Creativity comes in many forms, and we hope to encourage their exploration of their own unique perceptions of the world we share.”

“And, while we’re at it, we want to introduce to them the notion of art as a legitimate career path.”

And although some of the monstrous drawings are a bit disturbing…

At the end of the day the kids are drawing monsters, after all.

And it’s probably more helpful for them to channel their fears through art than to bottle them up.

Plus, they look really freaking cool.
