Longitude have announced their headliners, meaning there’s only one big-hitter left to announce their line up…
Summer in Ireland is shaping up well so far. Small, big, weird and mainstream festivals alike have been pretty spot on with their bookings, but there are still a host of artists yet to commit to the Emerald Isle.
With the imminent announcement of the Electric Picnic 2017 line up, we’ve compiled a list of artists that could very well be making their way to Stradbally for the Irish summer curtain closer.
Bloc Party
They may be playing Trinity Ball, but it’d be nice to get nostalgic listening to Bloc Party without the constraints of a ball gown or tuxedo.
For many, Kele and company were the soundtrack to their youth, and now that they’re back touring Picnic is a very real possibility.
The xx
With no headline Irish performance scheduled, and with Forbidden Fruit and Longitude already announcing their big hitters, Picnic is really the only hope to see The xx in Ireland in 2017.
Their new album is another home run, so it’d be a shame to miss out on them. Plus, a Jamie xx DJ set after would be the cherry on top.
Danny Brown
The following weekend Bestival is taking place in Dorset, which is often a good indicator of artists that could be playing Picnic.
Danny Brown would be a wonderful addition to Ireland’s biggest festival. ‘Atrocity Exhibition’ was one of the best hip hop albums of 2016, and his show in The Academy brought out the eccentricity of everyone in the crowd.
Clams Casino
Clammy Clams played Metropolis Festival in Dublin last year and is touring festivals this summer, playing Sonar, Field Day and more.
His set in the RDS featured tracks produced by him for rappers, plus solo efforts, and seeing him again would be a treat.
Chance The Rapper
Chance has been toying with Ireland’s emotions recently, rescheduling one show, then cancelling that.
But he’s making a brief trip to Europe after his US tour at the end of August, which means he’ll be relatively in our neck of the woods around Picnic time. Not sure if we can take any more rejection though…
Justice
Back in July, French duo Justice released their first piece of new music in five years.
Imagine them banging out tracks from ‘Woman’ peppered with their bonafide classics. Another dose of discerning nostalgia…
A Tribe Called Quest
At the end of last year A Tribe Called Quest returned with the album ‘We Got It From Here.. Thank You 4 Your Service’.
Not to get your hopes up too much, but they play Bestival the week after Picnic…
Frank Ocean
Because a lil’ magazine can wish, and hope…
