This week we bring you another eclectic gathering of cosmic synthscapes, grime and dancehall, ambient house, internet pop and smooth, sultry hip hop and soul. It’s something for everyone and everything for someone.

FACT Mix 569: S U R V I V E

As much as the kids were the breakout stars of Stranger Things, Austin-based 80s nostalgists S U R V I V E have done just as well with two of their members soundtracking the Netflix series.

We’ve given plenty of coverage here at District, so it’s natural that their woozy mix for FACT would pop up. It’s a more eclectic sound than the minimalist synthscapes of Stranger Things, but it stays true to the retro electronics sound blending prog-rock, new-wave, acid house and synth pop together for an interesting mix.

Swing Ting – RA Label of the month mix

Resident Advisor continue their stellar label profile series with one on Manchester’s Swing Ting crew.

Putting an emphasis on fun nights that don’t have to take themselves too seriously, this bunch put out their own take on grime, dancehall and bass music, with a lot of lines being blurred between genres.

Their mix puts out just that, with a handful of tracks from them and their mates, including Zed Bias’ sideproject Madd Again! and criminally underrated producer Brackles.

Powder on NTS Radio

One of the best online radio stations for new sounds, experimental music, and stuff that doesn’t belong anywhere else operates out of a small shipping container in a public square in Dalston.

Outside it kids roll by on skateboards, old Jamaican dudes play dominos and the one corner obscured from the main street gets riddled with piss. This is NTS. Anyway, that’s where Powder delivers a mix of weird and dreamy house and techno that sounds like it’s from the future, if you lived in the past.

Ryan Hemsworth – 3AM O4W

Ryan Hemsworth has stormed the internet with his beat driven post-pop since emerging a few years back. This mix delivers a taste of what he’s been listening to the past while, with a decent dose of hip hop and plenty of song snippets, including Deadboy’s take on Drake’s ‘Keep the Family Close’ from his Carbon Crush download series.

XLR8R Podcast 456: MNDSGN

Fresh off of releasing an album of beat-based experiments for Stones Throw Records, MNDSGN delivers a smooth and soothing mix of soul, jazz, hip hop and experimental sounds.

Packed to the brim with vibes, this one’s recommended for anyone who wants to jump between different sounds every five minutes.
