This post ranks & reviews the best and worst hotels near Disneyland, with pros & cons for each. Room photos, average prices, parking & WiFi charges, breakfast info, walking distance to the parks times, and other info is also included. Basically, my opinions on the hotel, plus all of the important objective details that will matter most if you’re planning a vacation to Disneyland Resort. Think of this as the ultimate guide to determine which hotel you should pick once you’ve determined whether you want to stay on-site or off-site during your trip to Anaheim.
These rankings are based upon my firsthand experience through actual stays of at least 1-night at the hotels. I think this is the only guide on the internet that ranks so many Anaheim hotels from the perspective of one individual who actually stayed at them. Every other resource like this is crowd-sourced (and thus lacking consistency) or cobbled together by someone with indirect experience (meaning they visited the hotels but didn’t stay there, or are basing their ranks on second-hand info).
I note this because I’m–frankly–pretty proud of this guide. A lot of time was spent staying at these hotels and putting this together and I think it will be pretty helpful. But maybe that’s all just my ego talking. I’ve been working on this for a while, and it is still a work in progress with more hotels on my list of places to review and to stay. However, if I keep putting off publishing this until I stay at and review “enough” places, it’ll never be done. I think it’s a pretty useful resource now even as a work in progress.
The info below the synopsis in each review is pretty self-explanatory. Parking, WiFi, and breakfast status are all key factors for many booking a hotel near Disneyland. Whether each of these things is free varies from hotel to hotel, and can turn a good value into a great value, or make it not-so-good.
Various factors are considered in the rankings, with room quality and value for money weighted heavily. It’s not simply a “best of Anaheim” list, as proximity to the parks is given serious weight. The hotels across the street on Harbor Boulevard that are about 5 minutes to the Esplanade scoring serious bonus points. It’s not simply a “best of Disneyland” list, either, which Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian would top pretty easily. Moreover, these rankings only cover hotels at which I’ve stayed thus far. Alamo Inn is #30 here, but there’s no way it’s the 30th best hotel in Anaheim!
At the end of the day, everyone is going to have different wants/needs/desires from their hotel near Disneyland. Hopefully these rankings coupled with the summary and basic stats about each hotel will help you distill these rankings and reviews down into something that’s pertinent to you. Hopefully!

30. Alamo Inn & Suites
Alamo Inn & Suites should be the poster child for Hotel Hell. Except, in this case, Alamo Inn is simply a lost cause. This hell-hole should be stayed in by absolutely no one. Don’t risk it.

29. Rodeway Inn & Suites Anaheim
This is one of a few places on the list that I have yet to review, but will be in the near future (as stated above, I have stayed at every ranked hotel). It’s a bit on the scary side, but not quite as scary as Alamo Inn & Suites. Another downside is that it’s farther away. Not recommended.

28. Extended Stay America Anaheim Convention Center
Extended Stay America is the first hotel on this list that earns ‘recommended status’ for certain travelers. Often the cheapest 2-star hotel in the Disney South zone on Hotwire’s “Hot Rate” section (we’re talking ~$50/night or less), Extended Stay is a great place if you want to prepare you meals in a full kitchen, but otherwise are fine with a barebones place to stay. It serves a specific niche pretty well, and costs very little.

27. Carousel Inn & Suites
Carousel Inn & Suites ranks so poorly because of its deceptive business practices in terms of its many fees. This is despite it actually being a charming little hotel with an excellent location adjacent to one of the best off-site restaurants near Disneyland. None of this matters in the face of the egregious fees they tack on, especially with plenty of worthy alternative hotels that are similarly-priced (sans fees) on both sides of Carousel Inn. The fees here are very consumer unfriendly and, frankly, offensive. I say this not as a disgruntled customer, but as someone telling a cautionary tale because you can find countless stories online of people being shocked by the surprise fees they had to pay at Carousel Inn.

26. Americas Best Value Inn & Suites
How Americas Best Value Inn & Suites ranks so highly on TripAdvisor confounds me. Perhaps it’s the hotel’s renegade approach to grammar? (Might I suggest a name change to #MuricaMotel? It has a certain ring to it.) Whatever the case may be, Americas Best Value Inn & Suites should be viewed for what it is: a budget ‘shower & sleep’ motel that is one of the cheapest hotels within walking distance of Disneyland. That alone is worth something points, but the motel itself is absolutely nothing special.

25. Stanford Inn & Suites
This budget motel defies explanation. Located right next door to the Rodeway Inn, I booked it despite knowing its location because of a favorable TripAdvisor ranking. Somehow, those ratings were accurate, as Stanford Inn really over-delivers. Mind you, it’s still a budget motel in a slightly-sketchy area, but the rooms are nicer than they conceivably should be, and the rates cannot be beat.

24. Anaheim del Sol Inn
It’s definitely not the nicest hotel, but it’s fine for sleeping, showering, and spending all day in the parks. The accommodations are–at best–serviceable, but are perfectly fine from a cleanliness and basic functionality perspective. Really, the reason to stay here is because it’s often the cheapest hotel directly across the street from Disneyland.

23. Cortona Inn & Suites
Cortona Inn & Suites is one of those “if the price is right” kind of hotels. There’s nothing exemplary about it in any way: the rooms are average, it’s an average (or longer) walk, and the amenities are average. Price is the big wild-card, and sometimes it can be under $100 per night. If that’s the case, and other options are more expensive, Cortona Inn is a good choice. You won’t regret your stay here…it’s just a very forgettable hotel.

22. Desert Palms Hotel & Suites
Desert Palms Hotel & Suites is a solid hotel, with some nice advantages like indoor hallways and an inviting lobby that make it seem superior to the hotels directly on Harbor Boulevard. The location is really advantageous and the rooms are fairly nice, but the high prices relative to other hotels in its class give us some pause with this one.

21. Wyndham Anaheim Resort
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the Wyndham Anaheim Resort from a quality perspective. However, it can’t even touch the Hyatt Regency Orange County or Anaheim Marriott–the creme de la creme of the Convention Center chains, despite similar rates. It’s just not as new and the amenities aren’t as strong. This makes me hesitant to recommend it, except to those who have Wyndham loyalty. On the plus(?) side, parking is “free”, but that’s because you’re paying a $14/night resort fee.

20. Holiday Inn Anaheim Resort Area
This Holiday Inn is one of the nicer Holiday Inns at which I’ve stayed. I know that might not seem like it’s saying much because Holiday Inn an “average” chain, but the best of an average chain is really good for the Anaheim market. The rooms here aren’t trendy, but they also aren’t dated, and the slate of amenities is really impressive. Rates fluctuate widely, so this can be a great deal or a poor one, depending upon when you book. The biggest downside is proximity, as you’re looking at about a 30 minute walk; if not for that, this would be much higher up the list.

19. Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel
Quite simply, at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, you’re paying a significant premium for that Disney’s in the name. You can tell yourself that it’s more magical if that helps you justify the exorbitant rates, but the reality is that this used to be an ordinary ‘ole off-site hotel that Disney purchased and lightly decorated with a beach theme. Disney diehards might find appeal here as a way to get on-site perks, but we don’t see it. If money is an issue, save that money for other aspects of the trip and stay at a comparable-quality-but-cheaper off-site hotel. If money is no issue, go for the vastly superior Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian.

18. Alpine Inn
Alpine Inn reminds me a lot of the highly-regarded Desert Inn. Alpine Inn has more curb appeal with the cute chalet style check-in building, but otherwise it’s a step down from Desert Inn in most regards. Farther from the parks, slightly worse rooms, and slightly more expensive. It’s still a budget hotel that I like, but you can generally get more bang for your buck.

17. Ramada Plaza Anaheim
Ramada Plaza is a perplexing hotel. Its rooms look nice, it has solid amenities, and indoor hallways and other aspects of the hotel make it seem nice. So nice that it could be near the top of this list if the rest of it were this consistently good. However, there’s the bad: dated areas, hard beds (albeit high quality–perhaps ‘firm beds’ is more apt), and paper-thin walls. Even so, the good mostly outweighs the bad, and this isn’t a bad option, especially if you can score a good rate.

16. Hotel Menage
Hotel Menage fills a nice niche at Disneyland occupied by few other hotels–let’s call it “adult fun” spots. The only other hotels that I’ve been to that somewhat appeal to this same demographic are Disneyland Hotel and the major brand name Convention Center hotels, both of which are considerably more expensive. While the rooms aren’t the greatest here, the amenities and common areas are great, making it an excellent place to unwind after (or pregame before?) a night in the parks. It’s not for everyone, but for honeymooners and adult gatherings, it should not be overlooked.

15. Fairfield Inn
Fairfield Inn is a nice mid-tier name brand hotel that offers close proximity to Disneyland, solid rooms, and a decent slate of amenities. It’s not the nicest hotel near Disneyland, but it offers excellent balance. The rates are slightly higher than the hotels to which it’s adjacent, but it is arguably worth the slightly higher rates. Guests staying here can always recoup those higher prices by eating breakfast at McDonald’s (right in front of the hotel) instead of in the parks.

14. Tropicana Inn & Suites
Tropicana Inn & Suites is one of several hotels on this list that there’s nothing wrong with, but also not much special about. It’s a fine little motel that is safe and has fine guest rooms. There are two ways it is exceptional: in price and location. The orange barons who (probably) own this hotel know it’s on prime real estate, and charge accordingly, with it costing over $120/night most of the time. This motel would cost about half that…if it weren’t directly across the street from Disneyland.

13. Castle Inn & Suites
Who among us doesn’t want to live in a castle?! Well…probably a lot of the adults out there. Castle Inn & Suites is basically “Medieval Times: The Motel,” and like that dinner show, this feels a lot like the early 90s. However, the rooms do have interesting character and the hotel isn’t altogether dated. Let’s be honest, though, the main reason to stay here is because it’ll make your kids happy. (If you don’t have kids, or they for some reason hate castles, look elsewhere.)

12. The Anabella Hotel
Uniquely Californian in style, The Anabella Hotel is best described as a local cross between a resort and boutique motel. The grounds are pretty, and overall the hotel has a lot of charm. Its rooms are nice and the amenities offered here are very good. A slightly longer walk than the hotels on Harbor Boulevard, this is a good option for conventioneers–particularly those who also want to spend time at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

11. Ayres Hotel Anaheim
This one ranks highly due to its European boutique hotel style with the service of a family-owned mom & pop hotel. Unfortunately for Disneyland-centric guests, it’s distance from the parks (you’ll have to drive) knocks it down a few spots on our rankings, but if you’re doing a Southern California with a visit to Disneyland being only one part of that trip, as opposed to a Disneyland vacation, this is a far more attractive (top 5) option.

10. Candy Cane Inn
Despite not having stayed there in a few years, Candy Cane Inn is one hotel that has slowly risen up my list. This is due to guest feedback I’ve read from others about the friendly, family-run nature of the business. The service offered here has given the place some seriously loyal customers (just read the comments to our review). Aside from that, you really can’t go wrong with Candy Cane Inn, due to its quaint charm, location, and decent slate of amenities. Guest rooms could use a renovation, but it’s otherwise hard to fault this place.

9. Hyatt Regency Orange County
The next two are divisive, with some people having no interest and others being drawn to these as the “top” options. As a result, I’ve decided to compromise and slot them here. It’s all a matter of focus for your visit to Anaheim. If you’re a conventioneer, business traveler, or have loyalty to Hyatt, this will be an ideal option for you. The rooms are nice, service is impeccable, and the amenities are solid. If you’re a family looking to visit Disneyland, unfortunately, it’s a solid 30 minute walk (or shorter shuttle ride) to the parks and isn’t in the best location.

8. Anaheim Marriott
Anaheim Marriott earns a high spot thanks to a recent $15 million refurbishment that has guest rooms and common areas alike looking great. Excellent rooms, plus the staggering list of amenities (Starbucks, rental car, great fitness center, pool, etc.) catapult it up the list. Unfortunately, the long walk from the hotel to Disneyland does damper our enthusiasm for it a bit, as do the rack rates and fees. If you’re loyal to Marriott or are visiting Anaheim primarily for the Convention Center, this is a tough one to beat.

7. Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel
Can you really go wrong staying in a castle? Well…yes. Not in this case, though. Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel tactfully balances what could be a kitschy theme with high-end amenities and modern rooms. The only downside is location, back by Mickey & Friends parking structure, but that’s mostly offset by the free shuttle. Mostly.

6. Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites
Desert Inn & Suites is an unassuming hotel that doesn’t really do anything amazingly well, but more importantly, doesn’t do anything wrong. This is key given its price, which is frequently below $100/night, and its location, which is directly across the street from the Disneyland Esplanade. While rates have gone up in recent years, it’s often the most affordable hotel within a short walk.

5. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
If money were no issue, this would be the #2 hotel on this list. Location is the obvious selling point, with a dedicated entrance into Disney California Adventure. For me, it’s the arts & crafts style that is the bigger selling point, with tons of well-done details beyond the grandiose lobby. Personal preference puts it just behind the Disneyland Hotel for me, and I do think the guest rooms stumble just a bit in terms of design. 4. Hotel Indigo Anaheim
Arguably the trendiest hotel in Anaheim, Hotel Indigo ranks highly because of its combination of location, price, and room quality. These are (again, arguably) the best guest rooms of any hotel on this list. General amenities are slightly lacking, but Hotel Indigo more than makes up for it with stellar rooms and a price point that is quite fair given its location and chic stylings.

3. Courtyard Marriott Theme Park Entrance
In terms of value for money, the Courtyard Anaheim Theme Park Entrance sets a high bar for off-site Disneyland hotels, particularly for families with kids. While the price is on the high end of off-site hotels, the overall quality makes the price easier to justify, as does the reasonably short walk to the park. The hotel is ~$100/night more expensive than off-site alternatives, but given the size and quality of the rooms, I think that’s fair. Quality is easily better than Paradise Pier Hotel; the only thing it really lacks is Disney theming.

2. Disneyland Hotel
Like the Grand Californian, if money were no issue, this would be the #1 hotel on the list. Even considering the fact that it costs 2-3 times what the #1 hotel costs, it’s tempting to award it the top slot. Great nods to Disney history, an excellent aesthetic, great pool, and on-site dining options make it my favorite official hotel. What it lacks in terms of grandiosity it makes up for in charm (much like Disneyland itself).

1. Park Vue Inn
Park Vue Inn would have no trouble filling its rooms if it were a run down dump. Being the closest hotel to Disneyland, it would be easy for Park Vue Inn to phone it in, making money with no effort. While this approach is practiced by several hotels near Disneyland, Park Vue Inn is not one of those hotels. The guest rooms feel modern and the slate of amenities, including the rare continental breakfast that’s actually good, is surprising. Rates at Park Vue Inn can creep up sometimes, but are generally reasonable. Even better, it’s sometimes discounted for ~$100/night, which would be a good deal for this hotel regardless of its location–but is a spectacular deal when you consider just how close it is to the parks.

Obviously, the rankings of these 26 hotels near Disneyland just scratches the surface of potential options, and there are definitely some notable omissions, such as the HoJo Anaheim and the Best Western Park Place Inn, but I plan on staying at, reviewing, and ranking other “key” hotels near Disneyland over the coming months.
While there are just over 100 hotels in Anaheim, I do not intend to review them all, as many are either too far away from Disneyland to be practical options or are too shady to bother with (staying at Alamo Inn for the sake of “research” was a mistake). By my count, there are about 50 or so options worthy of consideration, meaning this work-in-progress review and ranking post is just over half complete. If you happen to have questions about a hotel at which I haven’t yet ranked here, please feel free to ask and I’ll try to provide any insight I have (or other readers might be able to help).
Okay, now it’s your turn! I mentioned being apprehensive of crowd-sourced opinions of hotels above, but also the benefits of such info. I think that differing opinions would be especially helpful here, as those thoughts would be coming from other Disneyland fans rather than just random visitors to Anaheim.
