My, how the landscape has changed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

As the park dives into construction for the future Toy Story and Star Wars Lands, one of the places where change is most noticeable is around Pixar Place. While it used to be that you could continue your stroll past Toy Story Mania and then head towards the Streets of America, when you continue your walk these days you’ll encounter… construction walls.

As you can imagine, the area calls for a little brightening up in the meantime! I guess that’s why they recently added a Pop-up Bar to go along with the Churro Cart that showed up a few months ago (which also serves the Ham and Cheese-Stuffed Pretzel, Cotton Candy, and Corn Dogs).

By the way, does it make anyone else feel a little sentimental to see some of these old tables and chairs from Studio Catering Co. and High Octane Refreshments (R.I.P.)?

Pop-up Bars aren’t new to Hollywood Studios. You could find several of them throughout the park during park-wide events of yore such as Star Wars Weekends and Frozen Summer Fun. Obviously, they can easily be moved around, but we have a feeling this one will stay in the general Pixar Place area.
Why? Well, aside from providing beverage options in an area that has lost a few eateries due to construction, three of the cocktails served here also match their surroundings with a Toy Story theme! The Toy Story-themed drinks are The Sandbox (Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Midori Melon, and citrus — orange and pineapple — juices), Prospector’s Punch (a “Ruby Red Cocktail straight out of the Gold Rush” with Bacardi Limon, amaretto, pineapple juice and cranberry juice), and the Deep Space Odyssey, which is the one I chose.

Each cocktail is $12.75, and the higher price point is due to the inclusion of a Souvenir Glow Cube with each cocktail. There is also a classic Margarita, an assortment of bottled beers, and a couple of Kids’ Drinks — Ariel Punch and Buzz Lightyear Punch — to round out the options.
The Deep Space Odyssey is made with Bacardi Limon, pineapple juice, sweet-and-sour mix and Sprite along with Blue Curacao lending its signature hue to the drink.

No major surprise that the prominent flavor here was mostly citrus (primarily lemon). Very pleasant and refreshing, if nothing out of the ordinary. What made it especially enjoyable, though, was the strength of the drink, which was made to order… no pre-mixed drinks here! Thanks, Bartender !

Just a note that the Pop-up Bars tend to have fewer operating hours than your regular Studios watering holes like Tune-In Lounge and the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge (and, as the name implies, they may “pop up” or disappear at any given time). On my visit, this one was open from 12:00 noon to around 6:00 pm. But if you’re after a drink — and a snazzy take-home glow cube —keep your eyes peeled for this “new” spot where you can get both at the Studios!
