Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho has said that winning the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title remains a priority for Amakhosi this season.

“We played really well on Saturday (against Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup). The mindset from the rest of the guys was clear and it’s good that we have progressed to the next round of the Nedbank Cup,” Mathoho told Chiefs’ official website.

“What we need to remember, however, is that Saturday’s match is over and we must now think about what lies ahead. The league is a big focus for us and it is so important that we shift all energy to that and make sure that we continue with our good run. Often it’s easy to lose focus after a good cup victory, but we must never forget what is more important.”

Mathoho said beating Baroka FC on Saturday will help them stay in touch with the rest of the other teams that are challenging for the Absa Premiership trophy.

“This is a great opportunity for us to stay in touch with the teams above us. This league race is only heating up now. Baroka will feel a bit confident after their win this past weekend, but I think we have enough to get the three points if we can have a similar approach to the one against Stellenbosch. If we play our normal football we can beat any team.”

Kaizer Chiefs will face Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 20h15 on Saturday evening.
