Highland Brewing Company, a growing and dynamic company in Asheville, NC, seeks a Tour & Beer Gear Shop Supervisor with a passion for story-telling because we have a great story to tell.

Our story is part of what draws people to our beer and our Tasting Room. Highland Tour Guides tell the story of our humble beginnings as Asheville’s first legal brewer since Prohibition, to our 21th Anniversary as Asheville’s premier craft brewer, in our exciting hill-top brew house, meadow and event center complex. They also sell our awesome Beer Gear to visitors from all over the world.

The Tour & Beer Gear Shop Supervisor gives tours, sells merchandise, but also provides leads our great team by providing guidance in daily activities and strategic vision for the future.

Successful candidates will have strong knowledge of craft brewing, experience with retail sales, hospitality industry or event planning and management experience.

This role is full-time with a variable schedule mostly nights and weekends.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Tour & Beer Gear Shop Supervisor

FLSA Status: Full-time, salaried Non-Exempt

Reports to: Hospitality General Manager

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for supervising tour team, coordinating brewery tours and on site merchandise sales

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Manages all aspects of brewery tours:

• Gives brewery tours

• Trains tour guides

• Collaborates with Bar Coordinator to schedule tour guides, as needed

• Manages third-party tours (e.g., Asheville Brews Cruise)

• Provides regular critiques of third-party tour performance and activity to Tasting Room management.

• Manages requests for private tours
Leads and supervises tour and beer gear team:

• Interviews, selects and hires

• Evaluates and manages performance of staff

• Ensure staff deliver an outstanding guest experience
Serves as a point of escalation for guest complaints

Ensures all aspects of established safety protocols are adhered to by guests and employees.

Manages on site sales of merchandise and packaged beer:

• Sells merchandise and packaged beer

• Trains Tour/Retail representatives

• Works with Bar Coordinator to schedule salespersons, as needed
Stock merchandise counter in an organized fashion

• Ensure sufficient selection of styles, colors and sizes available
Complete Merchandise Order form nightly based on sales of stock

Ability to manage and protect Highland assets

Demonstrate pride and interest in effective merchandising

Manage multiple priorities and tasks effectively

Serves as a “greeter/host/ambassador for all guests of the hospitality venues.

Solicits opinions and feedback from guests and tour participants related to Highland Brewing Company;

Summarize input received and provide TR management with recap of the same.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Communications, Business, Marketing or related field, preferred

• Cicerone Certification, preferred

Experience:

• Two years hospitality or event-planning experience

• Two to three years management experience

• Experience with POS equipment and retail sales

• Experience in craft brewing preferred

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of the craft beer industry

• Working knowledge of major beer styles, including origins and flavor profiles

• Organizational skills in merchandising, time management, goal achievement and task prioritization

• Proven management skills and team development

• Accuracy in cash and credit card transactions

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks

• Ability to manage cash and other Highland assets

• Ability to operate merchandise point-of-sale system

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Engaging personality with ability to work with all types of people

• Excellent customer service skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Working Conditions:

• Ability to stand for long periods of time and do physically demanding work is required.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. is required.

• Willingness to work events on evenings and weekends is required.
