Pregnancy is a beautiful time to raise your spirituality and enhance your subconscious beliefs through Yoga. The benefits of Yoga during pregnancy, when managed correctly, are massive. I was a beginner when my husband Daniel and I received the message from our Soul that we would soon be conceiving a child.

The little Soul floating in my aura – we called him Little Oli, later born Oliver Calel Rechnitzer – was ready to make his contribution to the Planet in another lifetime. How exciting! My best friend, Oli dubbed her “Lovely Linda”, was an experienced Yoga teacher of 10 years.

Even more than that, I met Lovely Linda while teaching our Women’s Intuition course. Even upon starting the course she was the most connected person I’d ever taught (and still is). There she was, this beautiful white light, sitting in the group so peacefully, breathing in the energy and feeling her way through to become 100% connected with her Soul. She said meeting her Soul was like finally coming home, and I was awestruck by her spirituality and her connectedness so early on.

As we became friends, Lovely Linda told me about Yoga and I became to understand how she had moved so far along her path of spirituality and connectedness, already prior to attending our course. You see, Intuition – that powerful all-knowing coming from a Soul connection – is accessed through achieving a Whole Brain State.

A Whole brain State, your subconscious and spirituality

This is accessed through stilling the mind, increased spirituality and being in a space of Self Belief. Yoga is that beautiful practice which uses the body and breathing to still the mind, facilitating this connection with the Soul.

Lovely Linda began to teach me Yoga, as my Soul showed me that coupled with checking in with my and Little Oli’s Soul daily, as well as replacing all my subconscious Limiting Beliefs about birthing with beliefs supportive of a beautiful experience, it would help me to create a Natural Pain Free Birth.

As I said, I was a total beginner. I hadn’t gone further than a few introductory Yoga classes, because my body is quite inflexible (I can’t even touch my toes without months of practice) and I always felt I couldn’t be good at yoga because of this.

Lovely Linda showed me it wasn’t at all about being “good at it”… and if it was about that, it would be more about connection and breathing than being flexible. So with my mind and my subconscious ego quiet, we began.

What a beautiful journey. Lovely Linda guided me intuitively through poses to begin strengthening and stabilizing my core, to support my back during pregnancy and activate the energy created with Yogic breathing and movement.

I felt so loved throughout her class that I could leave all my inhibitions behind and truly relax into the experience, feeling inspired and peaceful. She also shared with me some birthing stories of her Yoga friends, which were the first positive birthing stories I’d ever heard (a great start toward my work with subconscious Limiting Beliefs – it was fantastic to hear of a beautiful birth story to contradict the horror stories I’d been told so far).

Sharing my spirituality with other women

I began to write my book: “Natural Pain Free Birth …A Soul’s Journey To Earth”, tuning into Little Oli and asking him for messages to help me and other women to spirituality experience beautiful pregnancies and Natural Pain Free Births.

I described the benefits of yoga in terms of a beautiful, gentle form of exercise, which can “keep your body limber, moving, exercised and healthy without over-exercising or straining it”. The right style of yoga, under the guidance of an experienced, intuitive, connected instructor, will assist the mother in strengthening and stabilizing her core.

With your increased spirituality and your Yoga exercises, your back will be supported during pregnancy, as well as your contractions during birth, and your posture after birth when carrying your infant and growing child. This is of utmost importance, as you can remain active throughout your pregnancy, right until the birth of your child, as yoga is gentle on the body.

The breathing techniques taught in yoga are fantastic for mother and baby, as they stimulate energy flow throughout the bodies, as well as oxygenating the blood, which in turn feeds the baby. These techniques come to the fore during the birth process, as mothers can intuitively connect with their breath to expel excess energy in their body, and provide nutrients to themselves and the baby being born.

Precautions with Yoga in pregnant women

There are minimal risks associated with yoga, if the proper precautions are taken. Choose an instructor that has experience (some don’t consider an instructor to be experienced until they have taught for ten or more years), but even more importantly ensure the instructor actively uses their subconscious intuition during the session, to check in with what each mother and baby requires.

The risk otherwise, is that some asana are too straining, causing complications in the pregnancy. This is easily avoided if the instructor has experience specifically in yoga for pregnancy, and can tune in to monitor mums and babies during the class.

Also avoid going to classes that are too crowded for one instructor to give mothers the attention they require. When run well, the class will have the mother feel fit, flexible and lovely, and the baby feel vital and relaxed. Probably the biggest risk is those mothers themselves, who bring the attitude of “more is more”.

They need to stretch further and push themselves harder in all areas of their life, including yoga. They face the risks of strain related complications. Remember, yoga is not Olympic weightlifting, it’s a gentle form of exercise, stretching, breathing and connection – a wholistic activity.

Lovely Linda was in constant communication with my and Little Oli’s body during our yoga sessions. We’d laugh as she’d say: “And this one’s for Oli”, guiding me into the “Happy Baby” pose. How cute, I could see that would be a pose Little Oli would request – and so he did, ever session after that until he was born.

More importantly though, I felt so amazing during my Yoga sessions – which was funny for me because I would have thought that the cumbersome feeling in my body would be exacerbated by such movement, but I felt beautiful and agile during my Yoga practice… as Little Oli put it:

“Another most beautiful experience for me is when you do your yoga practice. You must give Lovely Linda the biggest super-dooper hug for me, because each week that’s just the most beautiful, loving experience.

I know you feel free and agile during these sessions – you will continue to feel awesome and beautiful during your yoga throughout your entire pregnancy, so keep it up right until the end. And to have someone like Lovely Linda teaching you is just the most beautiful gift!

She wraps us both in love during the sessions, tunes into exactly what we need and gives us the appropriate length, intensity and poses for where we’re at. Most of all, she has you feel empowered and beautiful instead of “fat and inflexible”.

She shows you exactly how you SHOULD be feeling all the time, and gives you that great feeling to draw on each week. Thank you Lovely Linda!”

Pregnant women will learn how to nurture themselves throughout their pregnancy, even outside the class, as they work to keep the feeling they achieve during their yoga sessions. It is not necessary to be experienced in yoga before pregnancy, it’s never too late to start!

During labour (what I like to call the “birth experience” to remove the negative connotations), women will find themselves more connected with what’s going on in their bodies and their subconscious, giving them confidence that their body knows exactly what to do, to achieve a beautiful birth.

With increased spirituality, they will know how to breathe throughout the contractions to allow the energy to flow through their body, rather than getting stuck and causing fear and pain. They will also have the core strength and endurance to assist the birth process with far greater ease. Having been taught how to relax while muscles are being used is also helpful at the end of labour, to ease the baby the final stage to life, rather than forcing it out.

As for post-birth, mothers need to remember to keep up their yoga, so they can continue to nurture their body and their subconscious, as they give so much of themselves to their child. Allowing themselves to gently exercise will help their body regain its pre-pregnancy shape, strengthen the joints and ligaments post-birth, and allow them to give to themselves regularly. Again the yogic breathing will help them align their spirituality, their energy and increase vitality – especially during the sleep-deprived weeks!

Yoga can also contribute toward decreasing Post Natal Depression, as it keeps the body moving, oxygenates the blood, and works with positive energy within the body. Mothers can find classes where they can bring their babies with them, as keeping their babies close during the first weeks is one of the biggest contributors to great mental health for mothers.

So, mothers, increase your spirituality and get yourselves connected first and foremost, then choose a great instructor and start enjoying the benefits and maybe even a Natural, Pain Free Birth.

With love,

Sonja and Oli.
