Highlander,
I've been all around the world, visiting all 7 continents and at the last count, 59 different countries.
My list of top things I've ever seen or done, or places I've visited are (in order):
1. Angkor Wat
2. Great Barrier Reef - snorkelling/diving from Cairns
3. Safari on the Masai Mara in Kenya
4. Flamingo colonies at Lake Naivasha in Kenya
5. Drinking cocktails at sunset on the Sunset Bar of the Africa House Hotel, Stone Town, Zanzibar (I have to put those last 3 in, they were all on our Honeymoon!)
6. Fort Masada in Israel
7. Sigiriya in Sri Lanka
8. Cu Chi tunnels (and Ho Chi Minh City in general) in Vietnam
9. Table Mountain (in fact all of Cape Town and its surrounding area)
10. Penguin colonies on South Georgia
11. Hong Kong (especially the view of Hong Kong by night from the Star Ferry terminal on Kowloon)
12. Raffles Hotel in Singapore
13. Paris (all of it!)
14. Croatia as an entire country - make sure you stay in Dubrovnik, it's completely different when all the cruise ship tours have left for the day! Also visit Korçula, Split and Trogir (close to Split, like Dubrovnik in miniature, but with less tourists!)
15. Cathedral Cove on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand
16. Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge
17. La Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires, Argentina
18. The Sagrada Família in Barcelona
19. Snorkelling on coral reefs in the Bahamas
20. Playing golf at The Emirates golf course in Dubai, 2 weeks before the Dubai Desert Classic was held there - the course was amazing!
I've possibly missed a few, but those have been the highlights for me. I could heartily recommend any of them as a destination if you're just looking for suggestions. I'm sure you'll have done some of them yourself already though...
I guess the first would be off your list as it's in the itinerary you posted above and South Georgia isn't really that much of a holiday destination! South East Asia is my favourite part of the world though, although New Zealand is pretty special - like Australia with even more beautiful scenery and without any Australians!
Top of my bucket list of things I'd like to do or see before I die would be Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail, followed by the Grand Canyon. I'd also love to go back to New Zealand and Australia, but we never manage to get more than 2 weeks off work at a time, so we always end up traveling less distance and generally stay in Europe. We're going back to Croatia in May/June with the kids as the flights were so cheap - under £500 for a family of 4, return flights Bristol to Split with Sleazyjet!
