Law Street Media analyzed the latest available violent crimes statistics from the FBI to rank the most dangerous metro areas in both the U.S. and each region of the country.
While the scourge of violence in Chicago’s crime-ridden neighborhoods regularly make headlines, don’t expect to see the state’s most populated metro on the list. The FBI notes Chicago’s violent crimes data is underreported, and that the city’s data collection methodology for the offense of rape does not comply with national Uniform Crime Report program guidelines.
Two other Illinois metro areas, however, are ranked among the nation’s 15 most dangerous in Law Street Media’s analysis.
