2013-10-02

Here are your print headlines for the October 2013 edition of the print version of Disclosure, also available here at the website for your convenience with an online membership to the e-Edition. This issue will be the only October offering this year, as we’ve opted not to do our traditional October Special Edition as in years past, and instead take a five-week month so as to have a little break before getting right back to it (there will be TWO papers in November, so if you’re a print subscriber, that’s a bonus for you!) Print headlines are presented so that if you don’t have an online membership, or are curious about what’s in the print version of our news product, you can peruse them and see if there’s anything of interest (which there ALWAYS IS…just wait and see) and you can go right to the story from the link, or run out and get them at your favorite vendor. Print headlines are preceded by the dateline (the area in which the article originates) and followed by a very brief synopsis in most cases. They are in sections: Front and Back pages (our back page serves as a second front page), Page 2, Page 3, Egypt, Heartland and Central, and Op-Ed…so without further ado, here are your PRINT HEADLINES!

FRONT PAGE

WILLIAMSON CO.—Death threat in TIF case—Threat issued in letter: Incredible, or incredibly stupid? When are the criminally-inclined going to learn that paper, of all things, carries fingerprints better than almost any other medium? Not this one, apparently…see what he or she is writing to the subject of a front-pager last month….and how her story is progressing.

EFFINGHAM CO.—Source: Third crime scene WAS a crime scene; uncle charged in murder of 7-year-old Willow Long: Of all the crap slung at us by mainstream, state-controlled media over our report of a third crime scene at the Willow Long murder situation in Watson, one person emerged from the group of investigators to tell us that we were right on the money: what we reported as a “third crime scene” indeed was just that. Read this, and other startling details we’ve learned about the situation, in this article…you WON’T be disappointed.

FRANKLIN/HAMILTON/WAYNE COs.—Judicial candidate named in civil suit: This happens to be a very huge story coming out of Franklin, with roots in Hamilton….and tendrils in Wayne, as one of the judicial candidates there is involved heavily. In fact, it might be why he’s opted to run for judge, as it appears he no longer has his most recent job because of this case. And for those looking to pick: yes, when we produced this article last week, Kevin Kakac was the only judicial wannabe in Wayne. As of today we learn that there are two more, John Robison and Mike Molt, who have thrown their hat into the ring. NOT a typo, OR a mistake…just latest information as of press time (Monday).

LOUISVILLE—School board faces ire of community over policy vote: There’s a lot of emotion running high in North Clay Schools…and not a little bit of confusion. We sort it out in this carefully investigated story of what REALLY went on at the past several board meetings….and if you’re not from North Clay, you might want to give this one a read, anyway, as this kind of thing could happen anywhere.

Pick up the print version to see what it is Lily Abbott is referencing at the Marion city council meeting

MARION—Strange deposits into city accounts pointed out at meeting; mayor, city attorney livid: You can always tell when we’re striking a nerve…that’d be when the public officials in an area we’re writing about call us “made-up trash; garbage” when we merely cover what occurred at a city council meeting. That’s what we did, and that’s what we’ve been told Jim Marlo and Brent Gentry both said today. Maybe they’d better read before opining. And yes, there is a typo on Steve Green’s cutline. We bust ourselves out, so you don’t have to. BTW…this story is amazing, and it’s not because of our work on it….it’s because of the hard work and dedication of some people in Marion who have for years now been investigating things and have merely turned over their findings to us. We welcome it all; if you want to be part of this uncovering, feel free to submit what you know to us on the backside of our Facebook page, via email, or by mail.

BACK PAGE

Tina…seriously. Yuk.

HARDIN CO.—Ongoing feud leads to multiple OPs filed: Just when we thought Tina Williams got booted from the front page indefinitely, she does something stupid and gets her nasty self on the BACK page. And right next to Tara Wallace, too. There’s a reason for that. Read this story to see what it is.

Former Lawrenceville mayor Brian Straub & former “girlfriend” Rachel Gard

LAWRENCE CO.—Ex-mayor arrested: Yes folks, it’s true—another mayor in Lawrence County has fallen from grace, and really….who couldn’t have guessed that Brian Straub would go down in FLAMES? I mean…that’s highly appropriate, when you think about it. Read the full story here.

SALINE CO.—Prosecutor warns against exploitation of the elderly; caregiver charged after alleged massive theft: And speaking of going down in flames….this chick in Harrisburg really (allegedly) has done herself in. You may think you know all of the elements of the Kim Ital story, but we can assure you…until you read this piece, you don’t.

LAWRENCE CO.—Milk sipping by county board member comes under much scrutiny: We researched this one for the last paper, three weeks ago, unable to get hold of enough people to verify the situation. But this month, everyone came through, and here it is, so you can decide for yourself: Silliness, or serious?

PAGE 2

WILLIAMSON/DOUGLAS/EFFINGHAM COs.—Complicated murder for hire case spans all of southern Illinois; suspect pens confession: We’ve never seen a story that encompasses so many areas in our coverage, but this one—about a pretty little stripper/EMT who is charged with wanting to kill her ex—does it. From Douglas and Effingham up in the Heartland area to Williamson in Egypt, this story has it all, and it’s just the beginning. Stay close to this as it unfolds; it’s an amazing story.

EGYPT

WILLIAMSON CO.—Brick-man busted in Williamson Co., Saline cases pending: Nobody gets more excited when Rodney Marcum gets busted than Harrisburg does…unless it’s Williamson County, who knows they’re going to get big fines and fees from him in the end. Here’s the latest on this punk’s errant ways.

Tyler Nicole Tracy (TNT, boy, Tammy probably thought that was just hysterical) Wolf

WHITE CO.—Child sex offender convicted on charge of failure to register: Those who were worried five years ago when Tyler Wolf wasn’t sent to juvie after being convicted—at age 14—as a sex offender were told “she’ll screw up, and then maybe justice will be served.” She has, and it has. Read this article to see what it’s all about.

WHITE CO.—Accused murderer makes it sound as if he did victim a favor: It takes a sick person to claim they were doing something helpful by “putting someone out of their misery,” and by God if we don’t have two of em this month. This is the second, in a recop of the Thoas Davidson hearing September 17.

HARDIN CO.—Prosecutor furious over incompetency reports; refuses to prosecute certain criminal cases: One of many articles about Tara Wallace, whose status in the community continues to deteriorate with each passing month. And paper.

SALINE/WILLIAMSON COs.—Indicted Harrisburg woman found deceased in Tennessee: The full story of what happened with a recent federal indictee; more information than what we had here at the site, as promised.

WHITE CO.—Coston sentenced to 53 years; judge states he “wishes it could be more”: Coverage of the Coston matter as we issued it on the website, with a preface to it that you’re going to want to read.

Brian Potts

GALLATIN CO.—Armed and dangerous convict caught: It isn’t every convict who is able to escape and elude authorities. Oh wait….when it’s Brian Potts, is it….about 50 percent of the time, anyway.

CARRIER MILLS—Heavy business at Carrier Mills includes fire call ordinance, residential draining issues: Coverage of the September Carrier Mills village board meeting.

HARDIN CO.—Prosecutor does little to warn public of suspected rapist: Another questionable Tara Wallace move. They just never seem to end.

HAMILTON CO.—Broughton family fracas leads to charges: Peaceful little Hamilton County is frequently de-peaced by goings on in Broughton. At least it’s not one of the Earps this time.

HARRISBURG—Officers show restraint during brief standoff, father charged with busting tot’s head with buckle: A story we missed last month because this dude’s file was in the judge’s office, but it’s so bizarre, we thought it would be worth producing for this issue.

WHITE CO.—Stolen vehicles, beer can throwing and violence in White County reported: The White Co. crim report.

GALLATIN CO.—Four charged in what appears to be alcohol-related incident: Interesting little GallCo crim story, with some inexplicable moves by the county’s prosecutor.

CLAREMONT—Berryville Vineyards Harvest Fest coming up; Richland County’s classic winery to host: Who doesn’t love wine? Believe us when we tell you…there are a LOT of people who love Berryville Vineyards’ wines, and the Harvest Fest proves it. Read this Page 16 (color) awesome feature by our own Jade to see what awaits you at the October 12-13 fest!

WILLIAMSON CO.—Continuing testimony in Hughes divorce: If you’re into hilarious banter between attorneys in a court transcript, this is the story for you this month. Read what attorney Joanna Hughes did to her hubby Ryan Hughes’ attorney during the deposition of Tom Cook from Farmers State Bank.

HARRISBURG—Harrisburg city council struggles with liens, website, and transparency: We know Harrisburg has more problems than these, and we’re digging them out for you. But in the meantime, what they’re dealing with, and how, is explored in this article.

SALINE CO.—GPS helps lawmen nab Econo Inn truck thieves: A cautionary crim tale about how you might be able to fool the lawman…but you can’t fool the satellites.

HARDIN CO.—Tree cop busts carload; but was it legal? In this country, you have to have probable cause to stop, reasonable suspicion to detain…and the officer needs to be in his or her own jurisdiction. In this article is something we’ve been noticing lately: Stops, searches, arrests and charges that lack all three.

SALINE CO.—County board is down several members; budget, down several thousand dollars: We have a dedicated reporter for the county board meetings now….and the things we’re learning are eye-opening.

HARDIN CO.—Old-school sheriff laughs off allegations he took a check for a bribe: The print version of the article we produced a couple of weeks ago here online, for those in Hardin who don’t have internet (and yes, there are still a few who don’t).

ELIZABETHTOWN—Efforts to keep E-town neat and tidy—and numbered—highlight village meeting; board still targeting Rick’s Love Shack: We don’t know what the E-town board has against Rick Love, but it’s starting to wear thin.

ELDORADO—Request to limit electronic gambling, liquor licenses denied by Eldorado council: A brief meeting at ‘rado, which brevity likely was caused by our correspondent being present.

ROSICLARE—Rosiclare leaders grapple with leaky roof and…Lots of news coming out of the Rosiclare city council meeting.

DESTIN, Fla./MARION—Doctor remains hospitalized following explosion in Florida: The situation with Doctor Lopez in Florida for our print readers; folks, there’s something we’ve uncovered behind this story, and we’re working on it to try and bring it to you in November. There are too many weird coincidences with big Marion names in two different states….so be sure you catch this issue, and subsequent ones that cover this potentially nasty situation between the factors at play.

HEARTLAND

Robert Yeley

OBLONG—Illinois band teacher charged in Indiana with having sex with 15-year-old student; school officials sugar-coat story for student body: We don’t blame the administration for kind of glossing over what happened with their band instructor, but….the kid he’s alleged to have had a relationship with was in 8th grade when he met her. So it’s not like these kids don’t know what’s going on around them….just sayin.

CUMBERLAND CO.—Mass arsonists’ cases wrapped up in Cumberland Co. with pleas: With the exception of child sex offenders, there’s nothing the public detests more, and will never forgive anyone over, than an arsonist. Cumberland’s finally are locked up for awhile….but as is often the case, one of them, it turns out, was a volunteer firefighter when he set over 60 fires.

CLARK CO.—Violent former Crawford felon set for jury trial in Clark County stabbing: Henry Bice, headed to trial…and not a moment too soon, in the estimation of many.

Joyce Holdiman

CRAWFORD CO.—April DUI finally leads to serious charges; other crim activity roundup in Crawford: Hey…Joyce Holdiman has been charged…and she’s not making ducklips in her mugshot.

JASPER CO.—Sex offender charged for being within 500 feet of school: A Jasper County crim report.

EDGAR CO.—TWO SUCCESSFUL YEARS: It’s been an amazing two years for a couple of guys in Paris, who have formed a Watchdog Group that’s gotten national attention. In this photo layout, they’re in a parade, handing out copies of a special edition we just did for them.

NEWTON—Newton city council sets Trick-or-Treat hours: Newton city council meeting coverage.

ROBINSON—Raise in the works for Robinson police chief: Robinson city council meeting coverage.

CENTRAL

Yes. That is a bike rack.

WABASH CO.—$35k worth of bike racks appear in Wabash: The great bike rack grant, courtesy of …YOU! Yes, grants are not “free money,” that’s a fallacy promoted by people like Joe Judge, the councilman who took credit for this ridiculousness.

WAYNE CO.—Child pornography charged; horrific images found on home computer: The situation with Randy King in Fairfield, and folks…it’s worse than we were thinking when we brought it to you here at the site.

CLAY CO.—Flora man is charged after taking on three cops: One of those stories that make you go “What was he THINKING??? Oh wait…he wasn’t, nvm.”

WABASH CO.—Mixed Martial Arts fighter, out for “changed behavior,” back in the slam over dope: Print version of what we brought to you here at the website a couple of weeks ago, when one of Mt. Carmel’s bad boys, claiming to have gone good, messed up again. Kinda as predicted, actually.

OLNEY—Olney using public equipment for private business; town pest offers soap, misses irony: Once again the stinky O’Neill takes back seat to something the council does. And they’re really causing some raised eyebrows over this one.

WAYNE CO.—Two Wayne men busted on methamphetamine charges: Wayne County crim report.

EDWARDS CO.—Teen girl charged with stealing from church: Edwards County crim report.

WABASH CO.—South county criminal makes his way to Wabash: A guy from the seemingly-very-irritable Gervais clan down in SoCos, primarily, Saline and Hardin, finds himself hemmed up in a central county for the same crap he was pulling further downstate.

LAWRENCE CO.— The return of Uriah, and some new names on the Lawrence County crim docket: Uriah’s in a heap of trouble…get it?? LOL

RICHLAND CO.—P’burg man charged with stabbing another in the leg: A reduced crim report in Richland by virtue of the three-week schedule…but this one was pretty interesting, because one thing we certainly don’t have  a lack of in Richland is criminality.

OP-ED

SURLY & UNCOOPERATIVE (Jack): What kind of individual would steal Hello Kitty?? One with a lot of hair, that’s who…and surreptitiously, much like a lot of things in Harrisburg.

ICY (Ang): About official leaks; and what ‘they’ would like to see happen with them…and US: A very scary situation has come to the fore in Will County, up north…and it could be screwing us all in a big way if this judge is allowed to get away with it.

PROSE & CONS (Bubba): A trip from reality, courtesy Dennis Rodman: Many people have always said that Dennis Rodman is just “unreal.” This column proves it once and for all time.

COOL & COMPLIANT (Jerry): Tearing the mask off nature…staring at WHO?? Jerry’s “solve for X” dilemma that they didn’t teach when HE was in sixth grade.

GUEST COLUMN: Illinois Medical Marijuana: Covered Illnesses: Marion attorney Larry Lautering guests for us, wherein he explains who will qualify to recieve prescription medical marijuana.
