Emporia Awarded 2013 World Disc Golf Championships:
Emporia, Kansas will host the 2013 Professional DiscGolf Association Junior and Amateur World Championship
Emporia, Kansas 06/13/2012 --The World is coming to Emporia, Kansas. The Professional Disc Golf Association announced that Emporia, Kansas will host the World Junior and Amateur Disc Golf Championship on July 7-13, 2013. Three local agencies: Dynamic Discs, Emporia Main Street and the Emporia Convention and Visitors Bureau, cooperated to submit the winning proposal to the Professional Disc Golf Association that will entice approximately 600 disc golfers to the Emporia area.
Dynamic Discs is one of the largest Disc Golf retailers in North America, and has extensive experience with professional and amateur Disc Golftournaments. Dynamic Discs' experience with large regional tournaments, like Emporia's yearly Glass Blown Open Disc Golf event, provided the necessary expertise required to host a prestigious World Championship. Jeremy Rusco, owner of Dynamic Discs, stated "we are excited to build a relationship between Dynamic Discs, Emporia Main Street and the Emporia Convention and Visitors Bureau that made this possible." Rusco's team of professional disc golfers and event professionals are looking forward to the challenge of hosting a world championship. "We have hosted several championship caliber events, and Dynamic Discs is ready to support a World Championship in Emporia", said Rusco.
Community involvement comprises one of the primary components of a World Championship, and several community entities cooperated to support the PDGA World Championship Bid. The City of Emporia, Emporia Parks Department, Emporia Municipal Golf Course and Emporia Country Club worked together to provide necessary course facilities. According to Jeremy Rusco, access to "ball golf" facilities is critical to a successful Disc Golf event. Rusco said "The World's best Disc Golfer's appreciate Emporia's willingness to open their facilities to Disc Golfers."
Beyond the week long tournament, the Emporia community will provide Disc Golfers and the community several opportunities to participate in fun events, a "Fly Mart" showcasing new Disc Golf equipment and apparel, a putting competition, a long drive competition and an Awards Ceremony. Community Components of the 2013 PDGA World Championship are possible through the support of Emporia Main Street and the Emporia Convention Convention and Visitors Bureau. Emporia Main Street Director, Casey Woods said "the Emporia Community shows tremendous support for our local businesses and local events. We are excited to bring Disc Golfer's from around the world to Emporia, and we look forward to providing a fantastic experience."
The influx of tourists to the Emporia area for the PDGA World Championships will provide substantial local economic benefits and expose visitors to the Flint Hills Region of Kansas. Betty James, the Director of the Emporia Convention and Visitors Bureau, summed up the enthusiasm over the PDGA Announcement by stating "We are so excited for the opportunity to have the Amateur and Junior World Championship in Emporia, and we invite the world to join us on our front porch."
