BLAST FROM THE PAST
Bob Hannah, circa 1979. The Hurricane was at the top of his game, dominating the ’78 season on a production YZ and then carried superb form and fitness into the season. This guy rates as one of my favorites racers ever. Outspoken, nasty, practiced in the hills where I still ride and he was a local hero. He still a friend, albeit a bit crusty, a little nasty and still outspoken.
MXGP: LATVIA
This class has been riddled with injuries (Villopoto, Cairoli, Nagl, Desalle) and now has a new victor in Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Glenn Coldenhoff. He claimed his first two Fox Holeshots of the season and his first race win, which he combined with a second place finish for his first ever MXGP overall. Amazingly, the kid known as The Hoff is the first MXGP round winner for Suzuki this year despite the brand tenting two of the most distinguished riders in MXGP, Kevin Strijbos and Clement Desalle.
But the ongoing story is the speed in which Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Romain Febvre is maturing as a rider in MXGP. In race one it looked as though the red plate holder was down and out after being taken down at turn one. If that wasn’t bad enough, the Frenchman’s bike took forever to start, so he lost thirty seconds right off the bat. Where a lot of riders might have thrown in the towel, Febvre just put his head down and started peeling off laps as fast as he could. Despite being in traffic for the entire race, he set the fastest lap time and managed to finish in an impressive eighth. In addition to that remarkable effort, race two saw him take the lead on turn three and blitz everyone for his seventh race win and seventh consecutive podium finish of the season
Tony Cairoli had a very difficult day on Saturday and said he was experiencing so much pain in his injured hand, he did at times doubt that he would be able to ride on Sunday. He said later that pain-killing injections helped him through the two motos on Sunday, even though he had not been able to ride in the qualification. “The start is very important here and I knew I would be able to get a good start even from the outside gate positions. I was second at the start in the first race and finished fourth. I tried to see this in a different way because my contender for the title was in the back of the field. It was a positive race because we got some points, and for sure we didn’t expect this yesterday. The track was bumpier in the second moto and my start wasn’t quite as good as in the first. I was nine or ten at the start but I had a super first lap and I was already third at the end of it. Then I just tried to hold on and challenge Coldenhoff for second. This cost me a lot of energy but it was positive to finish the second race also in fourth place and I am pretty happy about that.”

LUCAS MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ODDS AND ENDS
450 Class-After waiting one week short of six years between overall victories, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Autotrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha effort now has back-to-back wins with Justin Barcia. All three of its riders – Barcia, Weston Peick and Phil Nicoletti – all continue to hold spots inside the top 10 in points as well, each boasting at least one moto podium finish.
-The 450 Class has four different winners through its first seven rounds – Eli Tomac, Ryan Dungey, Ken Roczen and Justin Barcia. Of this group only Roczen, the defending series champion, has yet to earn multiple wins.
-Tomac, Dungey and Barcia each sit tied for the class lead in wins with two apiece.
-Dungey is still the only rider in the 450 Class to earn every championship point for his brand in the manufacturer standings.
-Dungey has finished on the podium in 12 of 14 motos this season and has just one finish outside the top 10.
-Despite having twice as many Motosport.com Holeshot Awards as anyone else in the class with six, Barcia still has a higher starting average (5.2) than leader Dungey (4.3). At RedBud Barcia became the first rider this season to sweep the holeshots in both motos.
-Injuries have forced all three Factory Honda riders Cole Seely, Trey Canard and Eli Tomac – to the sidelines. Fill-in rider Freddie Noren has performed well in their absence, earning his career-best finish at RedBud in seventh overall, one day before his wedding. He is now the highest standing Honda rider in the 450 Class championship in 10th.
-Despite having five overall wins between them, Red Bull KTM teammates Ryan Dungey and Marvin Musquin have yet to win on the same day in 2015. They swept victories during the winter FIM/AMA Supercross season on six different occasions.
-Five of the six competing manufacturers are represented inside the top 10 in the 450 Class standings. Kawasaki’s highest standing rider, Wil Hahn, currently sits 14th.
-Hahn has earned back-to-back Battery Tender Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Awards.
-Despite not having raced for seven motos, Eli Tomac still has the most laps led in the 450 Class.

-Jeremy Martin is the only rider in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship to finish inside the top 10 in every moto this season.
-The 250 Class points lead has switched hands between Martin and Marvin Musquin on four different occasions. Neither rider has carried the red number plate for more than two consecutive rounds.
-Martin and Musquin have led over 70% of the laps run in 2015, and have won all but one moto thus far.
-Both Martin and Musquin have two 1-1 sweeps to their credit this season.
-All but one manufacturer, Suzuki, is represented inside the top 10 of the 250 Class standings. Suzuki has just one championship point to its credit thus far in 2015.
-With Christian Craig’s first ever moto podium finish at RedBud, a total of 12 different riders have now earned a podium finish in 2015.Craig has the highest single moto finish of any Honda rider this season. He sits just 15 points outside the top 10 in the 250 Class standings, despite only racing five rounds this summer.
-The Martin brothers – Alex and Jeremy – and Matt Bisceglia have passed more riders per moto in 2015 than any other Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship competitors.

On the occasion of the retirement of one of the world’s most distinguished rally riders, KTM Factory Racing wishes to extend very sincere thanks to Marc Coma for thirteen years of sporting dedication. As the long hot days of summer approach, QWR wants to encourage OHVers and Adventure Bike riders to stay hydrated when out in the backcountry. Access to clean drinking water becomes critically important when you are on a long ride and the temperatures soar into the upper 90s and 100s.

Feld Motor Sports and JGRMX team up with Make-A-Wish
Feld Motor Sports® and the Autotrader/Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX race team, featuring Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, standout Justin Barcia have teamed up with Make-A-Wish to give 5-year-old supercross fan, Austin Coleman, his wish of riding his dirt bike with professional racers tomorrow.
Austin, diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, loves riding dirt bikes. He began riding at 3, and even has a track in his backyard. When asked what he wanted for his wish, he had only one thing in mind, to ride with a professional rider.
Austin will get to spend the day with Barcia, receiving a tour of the Joe Gibbs Racing Sprint Cup and supercross shops before heading out to the private JGRMX supercross test facility where he will have a chance to ride with Barcia. In addition to having a day with the team, the Autotrader/Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX team in conjunction with FLY Racing and Factory Effex will outfit Austin in custom riding gear and team graphics to round out the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

WOLF: BACK IN THE DAY
This was 1990 at the Idaho City Qualifier. I had broken my leg at the end of ’89 and had some fairly serious hardware installed right in the knee joint. I could barely bend my leg and one or two hard days killed me. I wanted badly to qualify for the ISDE and realized right here that I just didn’t have it. Shortly thereafter I had the bolts removed, trained hard and made the ISDE team in 1991.
