ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA’S QUINTANILLA STILL ON THE PACE AT DESERT CHALLENGE

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna factory rider Pablo Quintanilla cemented his position as a main contender In the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in stage three on Tuesday to finish fourth in the stage and third overall.

With just two stages to go to complete what is the opening round of the 2016 FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship, Quintanilla is still one of the top three potential winners and is locked in battle with the Tuesday’s two front-runners Toby Price of Australia and British rider Sam Sunderland.

THE JAMES STEWART CHRONICLES

Love ’em or hate him, James Stewart always keeps things interesting. Coming off of a 3-race layoff, he hung with Dungey in their heat race and showed excellent speed. He gated horribly in the main, worked his way up to 6th, set the fast lap (with Dungey, who was in clean air out front) and then had his bike suffer a very uncharacteristic electrical malfunction. James is back in action for Indy and the team is running their retro graphics. The big rumor with #7 is that he’s practicing with a spring Showa fork and like nearly every top racer, is fighting the air forks inherent lack of plushness. They take the big hit better, they stay up in the stroke under aggressive tactics but they don’t settle, are rattling the teeth out of the racers and hurt the cornering habits of the machines.

THINING ABOUT…

701 SUPERMOTO ICE RIDING

Sylvain Goyet from France was the winner of the Husqvarna Motorcycles’ contest where he got to spend a day in Sweden riding on a frozen lake aboard the 701 SUPERMOTO Husky. According to Sylvain “Everything came naturally on the bike, it was easy to keep under control. Riding it on ice was a bit like riding on wet grass!”

Wow, sounds like a knee slapper to us!

RIDING WITH THE CHIEF…OF POLICE THAT IS!

This last weekend I had the good fortune to get a text from my riding buddy, Charlie Beck, and he wanted to go play in the desert.  Chief Beck is the Los Angeles Chief of Police and oversees the third largest police department in the United States, managing 10,000 sworn officers and 3,000 civilian employees, encompassing an area of 473 square miles, a population of approximately 3.8 million people, and an annual budget that exceeds one billion dollars.

And he loves to ride. We snuck out to our playground, met up with my buddy Mental, Steve Hunter and Doug Varner. Charlie brought out his KTM 500EXC and we spent the day ‘Playing On Any Sunday’. What a hoot.
