On April 25, 2016 KNI reported that Israeli Foreign Ministry director, Dore Gold, lodged a complaint with UNESCO for their role in the attempt to erase the Jewish connection to Jerusalem – the capital of the Israel – and to Jewish holy places. The 21-members of the World Heritage Committee had been scheduled to vote on the matter at the 40th session in Istanbul scheduled from July 10 to July 20. The vote was to rescind all of Israel’s claims to their Jewish sites and reassign them as Muslim under the guise of protecting these sites from ‘Israeli abuse’. Following the failed attempt to overthrow Erdogan of Turkey, the UNESCO sub-committee made the decision to delay the vote that would erase these Jewish ties to the Temple Mount. It may only be temporary but Israel sees this as a partial victory.

According to their website, UNESCO is known as the “intellectual” agency of the United Nations. Their intro description reads:

… at a time when the world is looking for new ways to build peace and sustainable development, people must rely on the power of intelligence to innovate, expand their horizons and sustain the hope of a new humanism.

The accepted dictionary definition of ‘intellect’ is “the faculty of reasoning and understanding objectively, especially with regard to abstract or academic matters.” The accepted dictionary definition of ‘intelligence’ is “the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills.”

Once again, the UN and its Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization are showing a deficit in the very things they purport to represent. As an organization, it is clearly defunct in objectivity and appears to be sorely lacking in its ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills – especially with regards to Israel.

As they claim to promote education, a basic geography lesson would not be remiss. In a screenshot from their World Heritage Committee site, they put Israel in the Europe and North America category. In addition, they have a fabricated, border-less and unrecognized entity called Palestine listed under Arab States; under which they have affixed ancient sites known for being Jewish and belonging to Israel both biblically and in more recent history.

In October 2015, the Palestinian Authority started the UNESCO campaign to reclassify the Temple Mount as an exclusively Muslim shrine. Carmel Shama-Hacohen, Israel’s envoy to UNESCO says:

There is no doubt that the Palestinians and the Arab nations will not refrain from battle. The subject of the Temple Mount and Jerusalem is the mainstay of Palestinian incitement against Israel.

Using the opportunity of the failed coup in Turkey, Shama-Hacohen and other Israeli representatives spoke to ambassadors at the breakfast table impressing on them that this “extreme and problematic” resolution did not have to be dealt immediately.

Ironically, the Turkish Ambassador to UNESCO and the Turkish chair of the committee were not opposed to Israel’s suggestion and were instrumental in helping to delay the vote even though the Israeli envoy had considered Istanbul to be a problematic place for the World Heritage Committee to meet.

Will the delay until October be enough to shed light on the subject and expose the lies and deceit that are glaringly obvious to all who have eyes to see? Shama-Hacohen cautions that all Israel has achieved is a “time-out”.
