Trent Reznor
Just when I thought January couldn’t get any more boring, Tuesday brought us a lot of good Trent Reznor news. His new music service launched, he’ll be scoring another movie and a big performance is happening soon. Let’s get to it.
Beats Music is the new music service from Beats Electonics, headed by rapper and producer Dr. Dre. So you can now listen to even more music through those expensive-ass headphones. Beats Music hopes to give Spotify, Pandora and the like a run for their money by offering a more intuitive listening experience and specially curated playlists from music editors, radio personalities and even Reznor, who is the ‘Chief Creative Officer‘ for the streaming service. The monthly subscription fee is $9.99 and AT&T customers can get a special $14.99 family plan. With your subscription you get access to 20 million tracks and unlimited streaming. The interface looks pretty cool, and you can start a free 7-day trial here,
While you’re there, check out the ‘The Seed Eight‘ EP which features remixes of Nine Inch Nails songs by Hot Chip, Simian Disco Club and more.
NIN has rarely played live on television but will be hitting the stage of The Grammys for a special performance including Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age and Lindsey Buckingham, SPIN magazine exclusively revealed. Seeing as El Rez has publicly poo-pooed the awards, even though he has two and has been nominated for thirteen total, I was surprised to hear that he would be apart of this. Ken Erlich, executive producer for the Grammys said that the men presented the idea and the performance will close the show. Buckingham appeared in Grohl’s documentary ‘Sound City’ and was a guest guitarist on NIN’s latest, ‘Hesitation Marks.’ The other three have regularly worked together on various projects and there’s no word on what they will be performing, but I’m kind of hoping it’s a Fleetwood Mac song and Stevie Nicks can come out and twirl with them. Or maybe it’ll be a complete version of the song “Mantra” that Trent, Josh and Dave played together in ‘Sound City.’ The Grammys will air live on CBS at 8 p.m. this Sunday.
WERQ that suit, Trent.
Tuesday afternoon, Trent took to Twitter, to confirm that he and Atticus Ross would be scoring another David Fincher movie. The pair won a handful awards, including a shiny Oscar, for scoring the 2010 feature ‘The Social Network.’ They nominated for a Golden Globe for their work on ‘The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo’ and I’m sure there will be more statuettes in their future for Fincher’s next movie, ‘Gone Girl.’ The film is based on the best selling book about a man, played by Ben Affleck, who is suspected of murdering his wife when she disappears after their fifth anniversary. Sounds right up all these dudes’ allies. ‘Gone Girl’ is scheduled for release in October, so we’ll have to wait until them to hear how dark and gloomy this score will be.
