It is no coincidence that the Diplomatic Council celebrations are preferably organized in the financial center of Frankfurt: despite its name and despite being led by ambassadors, the Diplomatic Council is a global business network bringing diplomacy and economy together following its motto: diplomacy meets business. Moreover, the Diplomatic Council comprises a global think tank pillar which is headed by brilliant minds from diplomacy, economy, science, culture and society who assist in shaping our common future. Prior to the ceremonious festivities in the evening, the think tank already gathered in the afternoon at the DC Executive Summit in order to introduce concepts for Economic Diplomacy and E-Mobility amongst others.

Festive inauguration of the Ambassador of Thailand

The highlight of this year’s „All Nations Summer Celebration“ was the inauguration of Her Excellency, Mrs Nongnuth Phetcharatana, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Germany. As the newest president of the Diplomatic Council, she assumes joint responsibility for the worldwide activities of the Diplomatic Council which is registered with the United Nations. In 2014, Ambassador Nongnuth Phetcharatana was named the „Ambassador of the Year“ by the Diplomatisches Magazin (DM) in Berlin. This was the first step towards obtaining the Diplomatic Council presidency which is also based on the recommendation of Dr. Irene Ernst, publisher of the DM magazine and a member of the select circle of personalities eligible to propose ambassadors for the position of the Diplomatic Council president.

Transatlantic bridge for DC members

During the summer celebration the Diplomatic Council has signed a „Memorandum of Understanding“ with the „USA & European Union Days“. These days were launched over 10 years ago to build a transatlantic bridge for politicians and business leaders to meet in Prague. The list of keynote speakers include former chancellor Gerhard Schröder, the prime ministers of Great Britain, France, Spain, Poland and the Czech Republic, the US Vice Presidents Dick Cheney and Al Gore, Nobel Prize Winners and of course business captains. In future, members of the Diplomatic Council will enrich the „USA & EU Days“ with contributions.

Soprano Lisa Mostin rocked the Villa Rothschild

Belgian coloratura soprano Lisa Mostin bewitched the audience in the castle with her voice and received wild applause. She has travelled from Amsterdam, where she is part of the Dutch National Opera, to perform most sophisticated arias, amongst other Mozart’s “Queen of the night”. Her next performance will be at the opera house in Florence where she will play the main role in The Magic Flute. She was accompanied on the piano by the South Korean pianist Chan Kyu Min. The arias performed were introduced and explained by Prof. Axel Steven Everaert, Belgian tenor and jury member at renowned musical competitions (Queen Elizabeth Contest) and teacher at numerous European music academies.

Van Gogh in 3D

True to the motto “A new interpretation of old masters”, the Diplomatic Council collaborates with the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam to present select pictures of the Dutch painter in 3D print. In order to produce these complex, three-dimensional prints, the coats of paint are applied layer by layer with a 3D special printer. This procedure creates extraordinary and truly illustrious relief pictures, which by far exceed all conventional reproduction techniques. DC Art Curator Edwin Becker, also Chief Curator of Exhibitions of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, personally presented the „3D Vernissage“ at the summer celebration.

E-Mobility Summit

The Diplomatic Council summer celebration was a summit of the two leading manufacturers of racy electric cars: BMW and Tesla. The Munich producer introduced its electric sports car i8, Tesla brought 3 cars of its youngest models of the s-series. Guests had the opportunities to adore, sit in and even test drive the cars. Out of competition was the famous solar car from the University of Bochum. The worldwide first encounter of all 3 cars was organized by the Diplomatic Council E-Mobility Forum to promote and support the topic sustainability which is a focus topic on the post-2015 development agenda at this year’s United Nations General Assembly. Being officially recommended for the consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the Diplomatic Council is aware of its responsibility and draws attention to the UN topics encouraging its members to promote and drive these subjects.

Platform for international relations

Before and after the official program, the focus was set on the informal exchange of ideas, the convivial get-togethers, the establishment of new contacts and the deepening of global friendships made though the Diplomatic Council. The familiarity amongst the members and the friendly reception of new guests makes it evident that the ALL NATIONS summer celebration is much more than just a summer party and the Diplomatic Council much more than a mere business network – it is a global circle of friends and like-minded people who want to contribute to make the world a better place.
