The incredibly talented Swedish producer Garmiani is already a household name within the Dim Mak family, following his 2013 club-crushing Rumble EP release. His lead single “Rumble” gained support from world-class acts like Deorro, Afrojack and Steve Aoki as well as a legendary play by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike on the Tomorrowland main stage. Garmiani’s approach to production sizzles with roaring synthesized notes and booming fireball hits from the 808 drum kit. Dim Mak warmly welcomes back Garmiani with the release of his latest electro smasher “Zaza” available October 10!

“Zaza” is your fourth release on Dim Mak, what’s your favorite part about working with our label?

I love working with Dim Mak for many reasons. For example, artistic freedom is a must for me and at Dim Mak I get just that. I can do what I want and Dim Mak is backing me up, giving me a great platform to do my thing. Plus, I was a fan of the label way before I started working with you so I’m just excited to be a part of it now.

How have your sound and style of production changed from your May 2013 Rumble EP release to your current work?

I think my style is broader now, you will hear it in the coming stuff. I’m just evolving and at the same time connecting more with my roots. It’s going to be exciting to show different sides of me in the coming releases.

How have your roots as a producer/DJ in Sweden impacted your sound sonically?

My sound is actually not Swedish at all and it never was. I’ve always been more inspired by music from other countries. The fact that I’m from Sweden has definitely helped me become a good musician though. Because there are so many talented producers and musicians here, the bar is set high and we push each other to become better.

What makes your sound different than other Dim Mak producers? Are there any particular Dim Mak artists you’d be interested in working with or remixing?

We all have our different sounds and styles, that’s whats so nice, everybody brings their own flavor to the mix. I’m the guy with the big and clean sound, Autoerotique brings the dirty electro, Deorro brings the bounce and Botnek are just dope as fuck. I’d love to do something with Steve and Deorro. I’ve done remixes for both and I think it’s just a matter of time before we make original music together. Clockwork is dope too!

What influenced you to start producing in the first place? Is there any specific person or song that helped to formulate your musical foundation?

My dad used to play instruments when I was like 2-3 years old, so I’m sure my love for music must’ve come from him. I started making music sometime around 12-13 but music has been my biggest interest for as long as I can remember. Even when I was as little as 4-5 years old, I remember that my favorite possessions were my cassette tapes. When I got my first RC I opened it up and installed a walkman and speaker under the body so that it would play music while driving.

In previous interviews, you’ve discussed the heavy influence hip-hop has made on your music. What specific elements of hip-hop have you blended into your production?

The hip-hop influences might not always be super clear, but they’re there. For example, on “Zaza” I’ve got the typical 808 hip-hop hi-hats and a snare sound and pattern that is inspired by an old Timbaland beat. I think it will be more clear with time, I’m going to bring in the urban vibe here and there. And it’s not just hip-hop, for example you can hear Brazilian baile funk influences on “Dance Motherfucker” and it’s just a matter of time before I do a collaboration with a Jamaican dancehall artist.

Do you plan on rapping/singing over any of your production work for future projects?

I’m actually singing on the track “The City Is Mine” that I did two years ago with Salvatore Ganacci. It’s not something that I do often since I don’t really see myself as a vocalist, but it’s fun so I will do it again. I might even rap if I feel like it.

Where do you see your career heading? What’s next for Garmiani?

Straight to the top and world domination!
