Welcome to the weekend. The weather outside is frightful, but this city is so delightful. And since you’ve no place to go, just go go go! Sample wines from Napa at the Wine house, learn about meat at Nick + Stef’s, or marvel at the gorgeous designs of the Greystone Mansion Design Showcase. If you’re feeling the holiday spirit, grub on a Thanksgivukkah dog, go for some outdoor ice-skating, Chill at the Queen Mary, visit with Santa, and buy some baked goods for a good cause.

Thanksgivukkah at Dog Haus
Pasadena

Grab a special Thanksgivukkah dog at Dog Haus and wash it down with a Punkin’ Brewster Cocktail or a Wham Bam Thank You Yam shake. This special dog features a Thanksgiving Sausage stuffed with turkey, whiskey-soaked cranberries, brown-sugared sweet potatoes, thyme, sage and rosemary and comes topped with Tater Tots (“latkes”) and an Apple Cranberry Sauce, served on a King’s Hawaiian bun. Available only at the Dog Haus Biergarten is the Punkin’ Brewster Cocktail. Made with Pumpkin Butter, Hausmade Pomegranate Grenadine, Buffalo Trace Whiskey, Angostura Bitters, Ginger Beer, garnished with a cinnamon-dusted orange wedge. The Wham Bam Thank You Yam Milkshake is available at the Alahambra and Hill Ave locations, and is made from Fossleman’s Marshmallow Yam ice cream topped with brûlée marshmallows.

The Napa Appellations @ The Wine House
West LA

In this in-depth examination, recommended for intermediate and advanced level consumers, you will be tasting wines that will encourage you to discover the diversity and quality that Napa Valley has to offer. Sponsored by the Napa Valley Vintners Association, this class will include free maps and AVA brochures as well as a Sirloin Beef Burger to be enjoyed with the Cabernets and other red wines that will be enjoyed in the second half of the seminar. Monica Marin, DWS/AIWS and WSET Diploma educator will be your instructor for the evening. Tickets are $79 and can be purchased online.

Nick + Stef’s Meat 101
Downtown Los Angeles

School is officially back in session with the commencement of Nick + Stef’s popular Meat 101 series. The restaurant’s signature program provides an opportunity for meat lovers to sample, compare, and explore different cuts and aging techniques through an intimate interactive approach guides by Executive Chef Logan. Once again recognizing the importance of pairings, carefully selected wines will be offered to attendees of the culinary educational evening.

Chill at the Queen Mary
Long Beach (Through Jan 5)

A deep freeze has taken over the Queen Mary this holiday season. Chill takes place in their giant dome – once home to the legendary Spruce Goose – and was frozen over and transformed into a giant igloo and home to The Ice Kingdom. It’s an awe-inspiring exhibit featuring larger-than-life ice creations that tower over 2.5 stories tall and use more than two million pounds of ice. Don’t forget to grab a parka and gloves – temperatures drop to a numbing 9-degrees in our igloo. The event features Ice Tubing, an outdoor Ice Skating rink, live music, holiday carolers and other holiday-themed entertainment.

Greystone Mansion Design Showcase House
Beverly Hills (Fri-Sun)

Design House International, the City of Beverly Hills and the Friends of Greystone, present a world class design show house this November at the historic Greystone Estate. Leading interior designers will transform the Greystone Mansion into a unique expression of creativity and power. The theme, “The Titans of Business and Best of Design Showcase House,” will feature rooms inspired by their own accomplished clients or iconic “Titans” of business, entertainment, technology and fashion. Tickets are $44 a person and can be purchased online.

Ice at Santa Monica
Santa Monica (Now through Jan 20)

Brush the dust off those ice skates (what you don’t have your own pair?) and check out Ice in Santa Monica. Shopping along the promenade with Holiday events till the New Year. The rink is located at 1324 Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue two blocks from the Promenade. Admission is $12 and includes skate rentals.

Downtown on Ice
Pershing Square, Downtown LA (Now through Jan 20)

Head on down to Pershing Square for a little ice-skating under the stars and sky scrapers. Skating sessions are in 1 hr increments and cost $8, plus $2 skate rental. Parking located underneath the square is $5 or take the subway to the Pershing Square stop.

Santa Claus and Special HGTV Holiday House
Santa Monica (6-9pm)
Santa Monica Place will ring in the holidays on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6pm in Center Plaza with the unveiling of HGTV’s Holiday House, a modern day, life-size gingerbread house which will serve as Santa’s home for the season. This community celebration will also commemorate Santa’s arrival at Santa Monica Place with a spectacular light show, entertainment, caroling and more holiday activities. Then from Nov. 23 – Jan. 1, shoppers can enjoy visits with Santa, nightly festive holiday light shows at the HGTV Holiday House, free demonstrations, engaging activities and hangouts with popular HGTV talent.

Eat My Blog Charity Bake Sale
Pasadena (10am-1pm)

The charity bake sale called Eat My Blog is raising funds for the Philippine Red Cross. The event will take place at Coolhaus in Pasadena and feature goodies from LA food bloggers as well as restaurants like Animal, M.B. Post, Sotto and Republique.

Reyes Winery Hike and Saturday Brunch
Agua Dulce (8am-12pm)

What better way to spend a chilly Saturday afternoon, than with a hike through the beautiful Sierra Pelona Mountains with winery owner Robert Reyes. Celebrate the season at The Grove

Enjoy magical snowfall, The Grove Christmas Tree, Santa’s Cottage and more! Snowflakes float from above, nightly at 7pm and 8pm. Enjoy the 100 foot tall, white fir with more than 15,000 lights and 10,000 festive ornaments. And for a bit of the darker side travel to Bow Street and explore the Halls of Erebor, starting at the entry gate and through columns that mimic the Dwarven Kingdom and its mountains of gold so coveted by the Dragon Smaug. Look for the Dwarven statues standing guard and be sure to take your seat in Thror’s Throne for a special photo.

This is the Natural History Family’s second collaboration with Chalk Repertory Theatre. Each night features four short original comedies and dramas by L.A. writers, set from 1913 to today. Audience members will be divided into four groups to be led through the full play cycle, before meeting in the main foyer for cocktail hour at the end of the show. $20 Members; $25 Nonmembers.

Sunday Roasts at Mignon

LACMA’s weekly chamber music series, Sundays Live, features the best of national, international, Los Angeles and emerging artists. LA Derby Dolls

The L.A. Derby Dolls are Southern California’s premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league. Watch girls on wheels as they battle out on the track with two teams of five players each: four blockers (one of whom wears a striped helmet cover as the “pivot”) and one jammer. November 30 – The Los Angeles Philharmonic is partnering with some of Downtown LA’s best restaurants for the launch of their Get Your Phil program: a specially crafted prix fixe dinner for only $32 per person (including tax/tip, doesn’t include alcoholic beverages), followed by a wonderful concert (some packages start at a bargain rate of $50 per person) at Walt Disney Concert Hall. At dinner, guests will also enjoy an insightful presentation about the concert by a special guest and a member from the LA Phil. Upcoming restaurants include Border Grill, Le Ka, First & Hope, and Blue Cow.
